Murray used to do multiple repeats of sub 6 2K,'s in a session.(Supposedly). Even for him, I guarantee you that the Pain Doctor was dishing it out to the max after 1 or 2 of them.
I have seen a screenshot of Hamish Bond's that was three sub 6 repeats, on four mins rest IIRC, so it is true.
Holy "_#+€¥°!!!......For the sake of my own sanity...I just didn't want to believe that.....
The good news is that now we have consise and factual verification on what it takes to be a world record breaking rower.
Congratulations on your recent sub 6 minute 2K.... you are 33% THERE!!! Stay Motivated...lol

Murray did 4x2k/4:00r, all of them sub-6, in the lead-up to the Rio Olympics. Monstrous.

Personally, I think that makes his 5:41 singular effort look like a "walk in the park". I would love to get drunk with him one day ...look him in the eye and ask "Bro, How the F### did you do that?" 🙈

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M

0:13.2 2,054 2:02.2 192 959 23 152

Gggrrrr. This was supposed to be a 6k CTC session, but I'm definitely mentally in the doldrums as Geoff (my inner chimp) waited patiently for me to buckle, as I wasn't struggling. It wasn't easy, but it was definitely sustainable, and I'll just have to retreat to 1:48ish pace and get something on the board next time.

I'll get it sorted out and I need these moments to galvanise everything else around me. It's all part of the process, and in a strange way I quite like it as I feel more satisfied when I drag myself back up

Given the Waddell went sub 15' for 5k, I don't find this harder to believe. Just makes the better of you realise you are mortal in the same way as your training times makes the rest of us feel!

For cross-training I did some pallet jacking, which is where you drive your pickup behind businesses and grab any pallets and scrap wood you find. You have to be quick otherwise the employees will come out and holler at you to put it back (which is guess is more cross-training, but I need them for the fence I am building).

I didn't know that, and now that I'm really thinking about it, I'm totally stunned that this is possible at that pace. Rob wasn't an Olympian was he?

Oh yes! Gold Sydney Olympics - single sculls. Plus a couple of worlds, etc - but known to me because he had the best erg score FOREVER and was miles out in front of what other Olympians were doing - rather like the Bob Beaman Long Jump. Only bettered in the last couple of years or so.

Well, now I feel a bit stupid that I thought he was just an amateur erger, albeit an exceptional one

First session since Friday with it being a bank Holiday weekend, plus a rare work trip to East London on Tuesday. Then a could be bothered yesterday.

Just a steady away 10k r20 today.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
42:00.2 10,000 2:06.0 175 902 20 128
8:24.0 2,000 2:06.0 175 902 20 119
8:24.0 4,000 2:06.0 175 902 20 125
8:24.1 6,000 2:06.0 175 901 20 128
8:24.1 8,000 2:06.0 175 901 20 133
8:24.0 10,000 2:06.0 175 902 20 138

It's quite easy doing exactly 10k in a timed 42 min session but harder to do a 10k distance session in exactly 42 mins.

If you use Rowpro you get yout instant pace showing with an extra decimal place. Not sure why the PM5 can't show that.

today is my 90th day of owning my Concept2 RowErg, and my 90th straight day of rowing on it. As a result of my efforts, my performance has objectively improved from "utterly humiliating" to "pretty lousy". I hope to fulfill Iain's prophecy in June and enter the lower tiers of mediocrity for my age group. Most importantly I'm still enjoying it immensely. I'm thankful to have found this forum full of better rowers who give me something to strive for.

I suppose it's a decent sign of progression when you do a normal workout and get #2in rankings for your group...lol
It will take 2 minutes faster to maintain that... probably in quick order...lol

After a notably brutal hot pilates class yesterday morning, I shouldn't have done this, but I always like to challenge myself. My thoughts are a bit scrambled at the moment, so it was as much of a mental battle (and win) as anything else.

I had a major wobble at 4.8k and then with circa 500m to go, but I managed to get a grip from then on. It was averaging 1:48 at 300m remaining for the last interval.
