I do find it hard to rate higher and not increase the pace, though.
Exactly what I feel! My default is more 18 for steady and increasing the rate comes with a faster pace and a too hard session to do it regularly.

Great HM Alex. Are you more comfortable at r20 than r22-24?
R20 seems to have been a default rating for me since I first sat on my Erg eighteen months ago (can't believe I'm writing that!). I probably do too much of it though so I'm making an effort to increase it, be it at the end of these longer pieces and extending the duration of the higher rate, or incorporating some rate ladders when the summer returns and I can appreciate the little rest periods. Sam Blythe speaks highly of them and he did okay on the Erg... I do find it hard to rate higher and not increase the pace, though.
I also default to a fairly tight range of pace for a stroke rate, which is generally a good thing, but it can be a curse occasionally.

I might starting doing rate ladders, as they're something I don't ever do

Taking advantage of Mrs Alex being away the weekend and me having some time off work to get another longer session in.

8/7/5/4 on 3:00 recovery at r18, ave a smidge under 1:58 throughout. Darn working for a living, it's amazing how much better we recover without it... This marathon might still happen yet

On another note, I hope it's just me fearing the worst given my history of them, but pretty sure I'm dealing with another hernia. (I say the worst, it's nothing on the grand scale of things, but weighing up what my symptoms are it is...) Got a Dr's appointment booked for mid June to check it out and hopefully put my mind at ease. No issues on the Erg, but can't press a weight without it straining.

Feel you being in the hospital with a diverticulitis right now
Good luck with your appointment and result hopefully shows some less serious stuff.

Really sorry to read this Alex. I lived with mine for over a year without it affecting me or my training at all...but then I got a cough and had to get it sorted ASAP. I'd suggest you'll soon know if you cough....

Best of luck.

Thanks gents. Mike, if I can live with it and get a good summer behind me and a shot at the Indoors in December I'll take that. A few weeks off after that I can live with. Funnily enough, my old man just had one repaired. He noticed his after a heavy coughing fit, so here's hoping I stay healthy! Tried stretching my lower back out earlier and could feel the strain, then.

Hope you're on the mend Sascha.

Hope you're on the mend Sascha.
Just had my first meal after exactly 3 full days of fasting, except filtered broth. I assumed it will be very hard to not eat anything, but it seems my body is well fat adapted and could easily switch to internal energy reserves. No symptoms whatsoever, not even hunger after I overcame the first hunger episode on the usual eating time the first day. To be honest, even today's meal I wouldn't have needed and could go on with fasting, but of course wanted to try if symptoms of the gut stay away when I restart eating.
Now, after an hour, I feel my gut is working on the food, even not being much (compared to my usual meals). But it's ok and no pain at all today. If all goes well, I will leave the hospital tomorrow and get back to my daughter, as my wife is on vacation in Greece
Good timing for such stuff, but my brother in law was giving support here :)

Thanks J. I hope I can do 1:53 r25 in Oct or so. My 60min was r24, so I'm guessing that's my true threshold rate.

I used slides today -- I always train on them and use them for 5k on up.
