What time of the day do you train?
What time of the day do you train?
As my hours at work are changing in favour of a later start and finish, I will be forced to work out before work every morning. I wanted to enquire what time other members exercise, and if there are any tips to sustain a pre breakfast commitment to erging?

Consistent long warm ups are more important.
Hydrate well. Drinking during the night is best. One advantage to morning is that it is the coolest time of day so you don't sweet as much. If you can, do as much as possible before getting on the erg (make lunch, walk the dog first etc), so that you move around as much as possible. Taking breaks during the warm up sometimes help with flexibility.
Get to bed early.
I almost always workout in the morning. Out on the lake at 5 am friday and today, 8 am yesterday, and running at 6:30 on Saturday.

When I travel I usually need to work out first thing in the morning. I try to drink a big glass of water right when I get up and eat a banana, just to get me jump started.

Wake up 5:00 AM, 5:15-5:20 AM in the seat and rowing.
Re: What time of the day do you train?
Lately I have been working out at from 12:30-1:30 am, but in the past I have done lots of workouts at 7 am after getting to bed at 1 am or later. I find that having a goal makes it much easier for me to find the motivation to get up early.
Also, while I agree that a long warm-up can be vital in the morning, I think that is mainly if you are trying to do a workout or test that requires a 100% effort. If you are just doing something a bit less intense, then I often don't do any warmup at all.

I wake up between 3:45 and 4:00am, I'm generally on the erg by 4:20. No food, no drink. Just 10-15 minutes of exercises, including single leg short square, butlers, etc. To get warmed up, before I do a warmup on the erg....I've worked out in the morning for 8-9 years though, and I think it takes some getting used to....

You realize that is the middle of the night don't you?atklein90 wrote:I wake up between 3:45 and 4:00am....

I would prefer to row in the morning, but I don't want to get up at the same time that you are doing.

Re: What time of the day do you train?
I know...I started getting up early several years ago so I could get into the gym and get on the road to work by 6am. I was living in Chicago at the time and had a 40 mile commute to work. If I left the gym at 6am, it took 40 minutes. If I left the gym at 6:30, it took and hour and 30 minutes! So, it became easier to sacrifice some sleep rather than 50 additional minutes in the car. Now that we moved, I still find it easier to get up....habit I guess...DavidA wrote:You realize that is the middle of the night don't you?atklein90 wrote:I wake up between 3:45 and 4:00am....![]()
