Help needed in DC

Post by Hoef » April 11th, 2011, 7:21 am

Hey everyone!

My name is Hoef and I'm a new rower . . . that's how it starts, right? Anyway, I would like to get some technique/coaching help on erging correctly before I leave DC in a few weeks, and was wondering if anyone here could point me to someone who could help. I'd also be up for online coaching, if that works, but would prefer someone who could help me out in person. I've done other endurance sports like running and cycling, but have been very pleasantly surprised that rowing is an activity that actually favors my build and size (6'5" 220#). Huh, whoda thunk?

Anyway, if anyone has any advice, I'm all ears!

Thanks!
Hoef

May I suggest you contact one of the several excellent rowing clubs in the DC area and see if someone at their facitilites can assist. Capital Rowing, DC Strokes, Potomac Boat Club, Thompson Boat Center, Tiber Creek. Or check the local gyms to see if any offer indo-row classes. Admittingly, indo-row has switched from C2s to water rowers but the technique is the same. Good luck and welcome to the world of rowing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not looking for a club per se, just someone to spend a little time with who can say, "Yup, that's about right," or "Wow, that's the ugliest form I've ever seen." I'll check with the clubs and see where things go. Thanks!

You say you're moving? If it's to somewhere that has a good coach who does remote coaching as well, that might be a good choice. So where are you going to?

Sorry everyone, I dropped off watching the forum and missed the responses. Alissa, I'm not going anywhere that will have a good coach, so yahooyellow, I'd be very interested in getting together with you if we can do it soon (and the offer's still good). Anyway, please let me know if this is an option.

Thanks again everyone!

I got it, but because I'm new to the board, I don't have the ability to respond via PM. Can you hit me again with an email address, and I'll get in touch with you that way? Sorry about this, but those are the board rules, I guess.
