The year in review and goals for next year

Since the 2010-2011 season is coming to a close at the end of this month, I thought a new thread to allow people to share their progress, setbacks and accomplishments might be fun. I thought sharing goals for next year might be interesting too.

And here is mine.

This year:
- Rowed 4M meters (plus whatever I do the rest of this week. That's like rowing from my house to Vancouver, BC.
- I spent 269 hours (and 24 minutes) on the machine so far.
- Improved my 2K time from 7:07.7 to 6:43.6. And entered my first ever indoor rowing competition
- Improved my 10K time has from 38:34.0 to 36:49.2.
- ranked 53rd (currently) on the nonathlon
- Diagnosed with ostero-artheritis in my knee and discovered the miracle of cortizone
- Discovered what over training was and managed to cross that threshold at least twice. Hopefully, I've learned something, but I doubt it.
- Most importantly, my weight has stayed at 185 +/- 5lbs for the entire year. I don't think I have ever spent a full year below 200 lbs since I was 20.

This coming season goals:
- 185lbs +/-5lbs
- Row on the water
- 6:35 at WIRC
- >90th percentile ranking at all distances (maybe not the marathon, 'cuz only the nuts do the marathon)
- top-40 finish in the nonathlon

Since I just started rowing my goals are fairly boring:
- Get a 50% or great ranking in all events
- Get below 210lbs, prefer to see numbers that start with a 1

Just to be clear. I do the marathon, just not well enough to get in the 90th percentile.

Well, it looks like there are only three of us in the 80-89 either weight category that have ever entered FM times in the ranking (the archives only go back to 2002, so 10 seasons' worth), I guess that it puts me in the 67th percentile. But the fact that there were only three of us suggests that you might be right, i.e. there may well be a nuttiness factor involved.

Greg: great year! congrats

Bob: you're a legend, keep it up

Bokaj: you can if you stick with it! Consider getting RowPro, it's a great motivator

Personally: a largely forgettable year for me: 2.2m meters and 7:02 at WIRC (I got a list of excuses... :D )
Next year: >3m meters, sub 6:50 2k at WIRC 2012 and deadlift 300lbs.

this year was pretty good,
started begining of last year with a 7:45 2k,
by the end of last spring was down to 7:12.2
took some time off during the sumer and lost some fitness.
right now if i were to do a 2k (which i will sometime in the next month)
i think that i would be 7:05-7:09 which im pretty happy with seeing as im only a 138 lb 5-7 15 year old B)

goals for next year, sub 7:00 2k by the time i turn 16 and sub 6:55 by next spring.

This is a great topic!

Congrats to all of you!

This year I:
-broke 6:20 (6:19.5) for 2K.
-16:45 for 5K
-Just broke 3Million meters for the year (today actually)

Goals for next year:
-Row online! I've never done it before. I know Chad tried to hook up with me one weekend, but it didn't work out
-3.5M meters for the season
-6:15 2K
-Compete in an actual race?

1,301,503m in 96 hours on the erg according to Concept2 log plus some other training

Goal: "5 sec faster than last season OTW" on the 1km. Do more systematic winter training (base building etc) in stead of last year when I started training for the rowing season on January 1.

Results on the erg:
2km time from 7:20.9 to 6:58.2
1km time from 3:30.3 to 3:21.1
500m time from 1:40.3 to 1:33.3

1km OTW difficult to compare because of windy spring weather. Did a 2km race last Saturday in 9:30 with very strong headwind (white foam on the - high - waves).

Morning weight down to 74.5kg from 76kg. Question whether this Masters rower should try to reach OTW lightweight weight. There are not too many Masters races in this country so reaching LW could be interesting in order to do more races.

Pretty happy with how I survived the winter. My season will start now, and goals for the next season will be made in September. I guess I would want to go another 5sec faster OTW on the 1km, which I should reach by doing more trainings per week.

Cool idea for a thread!

Year in review:
-Dropped my 2k time from a 6:54.9 to a 6:47.9
-Got much more comfortable erging for long distances
-Dropped my 6k about 25 seconds.

Goals:
-Sub 6:40 2k, hoped for that this year but my progress stalled big time
-Continue to improve aerobically. My strengths still lie too much in sprinting. In order for me to drop the time I want to I need to get a lot faster over the longer distances
-Improve my sculling

Greg it looks like your 5K is a bit slow relative to your 2K and 10K. Why not lower that time before the end of the year.

Actually, I guess I could "cheat" and use the 5000m time from my 6K PB. That would bring my 5K time down to 18:11 and buy me a quick 10 points on the nonathlon. Even though that is legal by the rules of the nonathlon, I've resisted the idea thinking that each distance should be a discrete trial.

Or I could man up and pound out a 5K. Maybe that's a better plan.

Actually greg, based on your 10K and 2K your 5K should be about a 17:30. Your 6k, 30', 60', and HM are also slower then what you could do. So your nanatholon score could be significantly improved--(if you wanted to suffer that much!)
Pretty impressive times you have.

All good stuff.

Happy here to just be in the 90th percentile with any results in the rankings.

Over 8000m so an 8105m for the 30min was a result I wanted to acheived this year and so was a Sub 7 2K, although based on my other results I should be able to blitz this now.

Hoping for more of the same next season.

Have a great one all....stay fit and injury free....see you on the "Virtual River"
