When doing long distance cardio (10k or more) should try and do it all out or should you do it at around a 170 heart rate. Can you explain the pros and cons of both. Thanks!

How did you arrive at the 170 number?

Long distance tends to be done at UT2, you're not going to find anyone who has a UT2 lactate level at 170bpm.
Use the spreadsheet from http://www.c2forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7631 to help you make a more sensible HR number to aim for.

Use the free spirts website once you have your max and resting HR.

WOW

what is your max? must be around 210 to be able to sustain 190 for 30 minutes.

Yep thats a pretty nasty HR average and I wouldn't want to be up there very long for sure. 180 average is maximal for me for the 10Km with a 196 max hr.
