Hi everyone,
This is my first post so go easy on me!
I just completed my sophmore year of high school, and it was second year rowing. I am 6'1 1/2 and 158lbs. My best 2k is 6:53.3, but that was a while ago and I feel like I could go faster. I posted on here because I was wondering what I should do training wise for this summer to challenge for a spot in our top 8 next year. There is a local club I could join and could row in a single/double/quad and race at regatta's (including Canadian Henley). I was thinking of doing ergs and/or weights as an add on?
What do you guys think, and if yes, should it be SS, or interval?
Thanks and let me know!

Summer
500m = 136.5 1k = 3.19.2 2k = 6:53.3 6k = 22:51.3
Re: Summer
If you have access to the water for enough time, it is pointless to work out on the erg. Use it only as a substitute when you can't get out in a boat. Weights might be O.K., but stick to low weights with a lot of reps.rowingkid96 wrote:Hi everyone,

SS or interval? Well both really. In a double or quad it will depend on team consensus. In a single or, when necessary, on an erg, do a lot of SS, with occasional intervals, say about a 3/1 ratio of SS/interval workouts.
Since you are trying for an 8 you might want to get in some sweep work in a 4- or 4+. Then there is the 2-. That is the toughest boat of all to master. The choice of partner is very important for that. You have to be well matched. It appears that you are primarily a sculler. In that case, it wouldn't hurt at this point to get in some sweep experience at both port and starboard, so that you don't feel locked in to one or the other.
