Summer

Hi everyone,
This is my first post so go easy on me!
I just completed my sophmore year of high school, and it was second year rowing. I am 6'1 1/2 and 158lbs. My best 2k is 6:53.3, but that was a while ago and I feel like I could go faster. I posted on here because I was wondering what I should do training wise for this summer to challenge for a spot in our top 8 next year. There is a local club I could join and could row in a single/double/quad and race at regatta's (including Canadian Henley). I was thinking of doing ergs and/or weights as an add on?
What do you guys think, and if yes, should it be SS, or interval?
