For those interested, nailed my 1st individual World Record to-day (when confirmed by Concept 2), Men’s 60-69 Hwt 6k. :D

Before BRIC, when I was taking on various British Records there were a few WR’s that looked ‘doable’ so bided my time until after BRIC to take them on. Now I’ve planned to take on one a week for the next 4 weeks, each as a hard AT type session in a short programme leading up to a 2k race in Feb. Pretty sure that race will be in St Austell for a crack at the 2k BR.

First up was the 6k (which for some reason I thought was for the sub 7 ITC as well, only to find it’s 10k this month doh  ), next week will be a 10k, the following week 30 minutes and finally the 5k. Graded them with my perception of ‘easiest’ to ‘hardest’ although each are hard as you’d expect.

So, 6k pace was pretty easy to fathom out following a hard 5k (17:09.8) I’d done last week for the IRL. Out hard for the 1st k then sit on 310w and push the last 1000m to bring it home. And so did pretty much that. No real dramas as I was ahead of the game from the off which helped the mental battle.

Nice feeling to be top of the pile in something. :D

Scores on the doors

Previous 6k WR = 20:40.4
Previous 6k BR = 21:09.3

6000m – 28 – 1:42.8 – 322 – 20:33.8 - New WR (to be confirmed)

1k Splits
1:40.3 – 30 – 346
1:44.0 – 28 – 311
1:44.1 – 28 – 310
1:44.1 – 27 – 310
1:44.0 – 28 – 311
1:40.2 – 30 – 347

You really are living up to your name!! That's beyond impressive, and you totally smashed the old WR.

There's a ton of people, of any age, who would be happy with that time

Doesn't sound as though you intend to have a go at the 2k record, in Long Beach. WR that is, not just British record. Be a shame to miss that form, and I'd think you can't not be within shouting distance if the day breaks right for it.... I too have a vested interest in what records might be picked off.......

I know of "positive split" and "negative split". Looking at your numbers, I wonder if we should also start talking about "perfectly symmetrical split".

Cheers Nav, I decided not to go to Long Beach, lots of reasons but the short one is that it's a lot of money and a long way to go for a weekend ! I've found a race down in Cornwall where I've some friends I haven't seen for yonks so figured that would be a good target race, with the BR as the target. But, if all the planets line up who know's what I'll go for  I just need to check with C2 that any records set there will stand

Lol never really noticed the symmetry before. Original pace plan (in watts) was:

336
310
310
310
310
335

But went out harder than that for the 1st k so knew I was ahead of the curve all the way, just got a bit sloppy I guess
