Model C PM5 Retrofit Parabola? (Aka Force Curve)

Post by Dancobian » May 26th, 2019, 5:34 pm

Just picked up a Model C today. The LCD has a minor display issue but I was thinking of upgrading to the reftrofit PM5 anyway.

If I go with the PM5 upgrade will I be able to see the “power parabola”? I found it useful on the one I used recently to monitor form.

If not, I will likely wait until until the current monitor goes out fully.

Thanks!

Thanks.

I should have been more specific. I am under impression that the “force curve” functionality and the “drag factor” functionality are resident in the rower (vice the computer).

Sounds like I will be able to see both if I go with the PM5 upgrade?

Well worth the investment in my mind if that is the case

This isn't quite right. The PM uses data from sensors on the rower to calculate the force curve and show you the DF.

For example, I used to have a PM 2+ on my Model C. No force curve, no ability to see the DF. I upgraded to a PM 3 and can now see the force curve. (can't remember about the DF on the PM 3, but I think the 3 also has it)

Copy- Lot to learn. I’ll go with he PM5 retrofit. I just learned / started to learn how to use one of these on a recent deployment and really enjoyed it. Got one on Craig’s List today for $150. With the additional $180 for the upgrade I figure I’m still well ahead of buying one new. The force curve helped me know what “right” looks like.

Thanks for the info.

$150 plus the cost of a new PM5 is a great deal.

Give it a good once-over and check for any parts that might need to be cleaned, lubricated, or replaced.

C2 does a very good job of supporting their older models and has many replacement parts available on their web site. They also have all the manuals and assembly drawings online if you need to get into the guts of the machine. For simple questions you can get answers here. You can also give C2 a call or e-mail if you need support from them directly.

Good luck and "enjoy" your workouts. :)

PM2+ had a continuous DF display by a simultaneous 2 button press. Can't remember which 2 since I upgraded to the PM5. I actually miss the ability to see the DF in real time. I row outdoors and temp and breeze changes the DF.

Ergdata on your phone can show DF.

I didn't know this - it must be some sort of easter-egg sort of thing, because I don't remember seeing it mentioned anywhere.
(it has been a long time since I read the PM2+ manual)

Can a phone connect to 2 BT devices at the same time? I use my phone to stream music to my BT headphones or speaker. I didn't think it could connect to different devices.

Yes it can, I sometimes listen to music with BT headphones and have ergdata running at the same time.
