I think you can suprise yourself some times on the erg. You think you have not much left to give but with a bit grit and mental fortitude can find something more in you that you never thought you had left!!! That last k is a perfect reflection of it.

I have gained massive confidence from this 5k, thats for sure :)

It's great when that feeling of confidence in your own abilities ''kicks in'' after a good performance (and yours was a very good performance indeed!).

I'm really pleased for you and so glad that you've got it at the moment as I see you training hard regularly on the erg, gym, bike and all manner of self torture so to get a PB which really does give a lift to all the usual 'work' is a big boost and should help lift everything.

I know you say you are not competitive and only like to keep fit but hopefully this will give you a little ''peek'' into what you can achieve if you want to....you certainly have great potential although I do understand that exploring it does need to be enjoyable and not just a constant 'grind'.

How about going for a 30 minutes under an average of 2:00 pace next? I'm sure you'd enjoy that and reporting 7500 metres plus for it......no rush of course but I'm sure you can do it and I'm also pretty sure you would be glad when you do.

Congrats, given how pleased you are with this pb, maybe train a bit more performance aimed, you seem to enjoy that.
This is still far from your max, mainly because you don,t train for it.

Rod, it's been a good while since i really pushed myself a bit on the erg and it was certainly overdue, thats for sure. Yeah, generally i'm not competitive at all, except to compete against myself if anything. Yes, i need to have that balance of enjoyment and for it not to feel like a regular chore. I noticed fast though, once i started slacking a bit with the weekly meters it was all a chore on the erg, no matter what i did, and nothing worse than feeling you've lost some fitness imo. So from that aspect, i now know from personal experience it's very important to build up those weekly meters and maintain them! Then i really enjoy my time on there for the most part. It's some work to do, but satisfies me a lot after i've done it.

I actually done a 30min under 2:00 pace earlier this year, Rod. It was very tough work though back then!

I'm not going to even argue there, Henry, because there is nothing to argue with. You are dead right, i simply don't train for it... i hate the fast interval stuff in all honesty! it's just not my bag to put myself through that kinda pain. Yesterday though in that 5k, i thought to myself, yunno, i have certainly put in a stack of SS sessions, lets see what you can do here as a result of all that work, and those SS sessions are certainly doing the job. In the end, it was more that my energy was zapped than my lungs not being able to cope anymore. Indeed, i am so pleased with this PB. Thanks very much Henry.

Improved my 6k PB from 23:22.5 to 22:49.9

I was aiming for a few seconds faster than that to hit 75th percentile (it's 73rd just now) but it will do.

It's not a piece I do often hence the large improvement. I did it as the "hard distance" piece in the Pete Plan end of first cycle (week 3).

Next near-term target is to do 1h at <2:00 which is 15,000m. I have only done 1h once or twice and the last time was in 2011 when I did about 14,500m hence it looks a bit weak on my "Lifetime Bests" page compared to the rest!
A: 38; H: 184cm; W: 82kg. Would love to put on a few kg muscle.
PBs: 2k 6:56.9; 5k 18:37.5; 30min 7,942m;10k 38:32.0;6k 22:40.9 (all 2017/2018).
Doing PP|Aiming for 8000m in 30min|Hate the heat

@ Anth. Great result and to think you almost HD'ed. I can feel the pain in the last part of your session and it takes a lot to keep going

@DNA, also a great result and now use it as motivation to push on next time and shave off a few more seconds

@ Lance. I know how hard 50k can feel near the end so really well done for finishing it. Are the long sessions what you're aiming for now?

Mixed feelings on my session today. I got a new FM PB (2:50:56) but I was aiming for a 55km distance but I went out too fast and i was totally spent at the end of the FM. I let last week's frustration of the FM PB not being verified, as I set it to 50km, get a grip of me and should have been more controlled. It was good to test the boundaries of my fitness though.

It's really amazing how a slower 500m ave pace can actually speed you up in the long run as I had to stop for 60 secs with 3km left to gather my thoughts and mentally kick myself. If I had just stayed at a circa 1:58:5 pace I would have finished quicker in the end but i convinced myself I could handle a 1:57:2 pace but it was a grind from 10km onwards, and from 3km left was really tough. RPE of 9 for last 3km

Thanks very much!!!! Yeah, i really had to dig deep in the last 500m!!! But there was just simply no way i was gonna HD after getting that far, that mindset got me over the line in the end. The predicted finish time not long before that was 19:20, i tried my best to hold that time to the finish but it ever so slowly slipped away and got out of reach. But, there will always be a next time :wink:

Excellent work yourself there on that FM PB. I have tons of respect for anyone who completes a FM, regardless of the time.

Thanks Anth. The longer sessions seem to suit me more than the TT. Good job really as I've got a 12 hour charity session in December in memory of a very good mate who passed away last year from diabetes. Target of 130km but hopefully more like 150km

Those moments of digging deep will give you benefits in the whole of your life.

10K on empty stomach this morning. Rate restricted to 24spm compared to 22spm last week so that resulted in a new PB(28,8 seconds improvement)
Hopefully there will still be room for improvement when I'm doing a free rate(approx. 28spm) 10K

@ Anth, thanks mate. It wasn't too much of a shock as he lived his life like every day would be his last and he had Type 1 diabetes from birth. He was a great mate but he wouldn't listen to anyone so there was only so much we could all do for him. As diabetes runs in my family I do everything I can to make sure it won't happen to me, and hopefully other people too.
