Mud Season Madness Fatigue

Post by sellaz » March 2nd, 2021, 11:49 am

I am fairly new to rowing and have entered the Mud Season Madness. After 2 days of rowing 5k I can already see myself getting burned our pretty quick. Does anyone have any good workouts that are equivalent to 5k to throw a little variety into the next 30 days.

Well, just rowing 5k every day for a month would get boring. Have you considered just doing one of the Concept2 workouts of the day?

This would give you some nice variety. Many of the short workouts are close to 5k. Most of the medium workouts are over 5k.

Almost anything! Easy to do 2.5k as warm up &/or cool down, so just add anything in between even 100m!

The two challenge offerings are 10k per day for 25 days or 5k on 25 days. So six rest days if you wish. Won’t eliminate continuous distance boredom but will allow recovery. Most will do six on, one off for four weeks and reserve three for days that present unforeseen demands canceling workout time. 4 days active followed by 1 rest and active final day of challenge month could also work.

And interval format need not be balls to the wall. A distance ladder of 2k, 1.5k, 1k, 500m with graduated rests of 30” per 500m of active distance (2’, 1:30, 1’) fits well with the 5k daily goal plus a few meters of active rest for good measure. For variety reverse the order.

Connect your rower to Zwift and time will fly B)

PainSled is available for Android, too.

Be careful not to do the 10k challenge accidentally.

Almost a 2 year anniversary of my post, buried deep in that thread... That was my first year attempting the 10k Mud Madness. Humbled by your suggestion of checking that post out.

Going strong for year 3 of the challenge right now! - Running season is out of style right now in Maine...

My first time at attempting the Mud Season Madness (10km). Now on Day 23 - 9 more days to push.
I knew I would need some motivation so I decided to make the challenge a sponsored row. I am doing the full 31 days in the hope to raise enough money to purchase the school where I work a new Concept2 Rowing Machine. I am really drained but still going....just!
