Today was 6K rowing and 22 minutes (I know an odd number but I just workout for around as much time during lunch as I have) on the Air Dyne Pro. Pace on the rower fairly easy at 2:11.4 or so. Just getting back from my back injury. Not wanting to push too hard. Did 5K @ 2:08 or so the other day and was tight all night. Hardly a fast row, so I better take it easy for a bit.

On the bike, was taking it really easy (barely UT2 stuff).

On-water in a masters 4+ today. The work was 6 X 5 minutes at 24-28 SPM. A little wind and shaky boat set made it difficult to put as much oomph into the strokes as I'd have liked (I'm sure my boat mates felt the same way).

Animal Nige ... do you have any climbing goals at the moment? I've climbed for a long while (started when I was 14) but haven't pushed to improve in quite some time. I'm probably good for about 7a or 7a+ redpoint at the moment, but only if it's more thugy than footwork oriented. Maybe Font 6C+ for bouldering. Not easy to combine climbing with rowing if you ask me -- it worked better as a cross-training activity when I was primarily running.
I don't get to the crags much. Going down to Bédoin soon, so hope to get to Saint Leger or Venasque. I'm hoping to be 6c maybe 7a.

I was at St. Leger the summer previous to the one that just passed. I'm old friends with one of the more active route developers there, Franck Vilpini. I've climbed in the south of France a good bit -- definitely one of my favorite places. On the recent trip I brought my kids and wife to some easier crags and had a great time ... then I met up with Franck at St. Leger and got utterly destroyed on almost everything I tried. C'est la vie!

We have similar tastes in sport I think. I raced bikes for a good while as well, though more MTB than road. Colorado is a great place for cycling and climbing. It's also spectacular to row here in the mountains, but I wish the Boulder Reservoir could be a few times bigger than it is.

I did 2x 1 hour sessions today (morning and early evening).
1st session felt great, I was only expecting to be around 2:13 splits (UT2) but ended up at 2:07.5 and felt easy.
Second session I deliberately rowed slower and concentrated on my stroke profile (I had a back injury a number of years ago so I collapse a bit in the middle of the stroke) but did 2:12.5 and rowed that without breathing hard at all (able to breathe through my nose).

5 sets of bar pullups to failure then some squats. Then a 30min row... feels good getting straight onto the rower after pullups.

30mins @ 2:06.3 - r21 - 7124m (Nice enjoyable session, rhythm felt spot on)

Then on to the Power Plate for 10'
42yo male 5'10 78kg (Rowing since june 9th 2016) PB's 5k 19:22 30min 7518m

My goals are simply to keep fit/get fitter and continue to enjoy rowing on the C2 :)

Coming back to it after slacking off July/August:

30r20 1:55.7 20 144

6:00 - 1:55.7 20 131
12:00 - 1:55.7 20 140
18:00 - 1:55.6 20 145
24:00 - 1:55.7 20 150
30:00 - 1:55.8 20 155

UT3-1.
I never seem to wu properly for anything other than hard intervals or SB attempts, thus the steep HR trend.
wu (9:00 2:04 21 109).

Brilliant - I've got a torn meniscus in my knee from overenthusiastic squatting and then running before it fully recovered... So you won't be seeing my training for a few weeks  Saw my doctor just now: the classic RICE treatment plus an MRI scan to see what's what.

Anyone else got experience of this injury?

@ Hobbit
That sucks... sorry to hear it. I'll try to avoid that scenario in my program...

My training this week...

- Tues - 24 x 500m/:30r / 49:46.7 / 2:04.4 / DF 110 / SR 19 / SPI 9.57

- Weds - 5020m / 19:30.5 / 1:56.5 / DF 205 / SR 23 / SPI 9.60 (aborted HM, fly-n-die)

- Thurs - 7959m / 30.47.1 / 1:56.0 / DF 155 / SR 27 / SPI 8.29 (better then my current PB pace for the 30 min! time for a re-test I think...)

Very stressful week meant training so far has been a lower priority, but so far have managed:

- 1hr core
- Weights session (overhead press, db shrugs, barbell row, db incline curl)
- 23.5K on the erg inc 5x350r90@1:36.2

...hopefully get some meters in on the erg at the weekend and maybe some weights. Good to be back.

Targets: 355m+ 1min, 1:27(500m), 3:11(1K), bench 2 plates, squat 3 plates

Erg on!

Hobbit - sorry to hear. I tore mine off on my right knee years ago, a lot different. My son and daughter have both torn theirs, more like yours. Son's was just a very slight tear. Surgery and two weeks later, he was as good as new. Daughters was when she didn't have an ACL (like my injury) and was doing something she shouldn't have been doing without an ACL -- chasing her brother! She blew her ACL at 13 and they don't repair them in girls until they are 15, so she had to wait two years for her growth plates to mature. Tore her meniscus the week before her ACL surgery! Hers was a pretty severe tear. They immobilized the knee for around a month, then standard ACL rehab after that. She still has issues (now 27) with it from time to time.

Meniscus injuries can be very subtle and quick to heal (usually with a trim or sewing them back) or devastating like mine (where they had to scrape and drill holes -- microfracture surgery it's called). You usually know, though, by how bad it is and how much range of motion you have without great pain (at least I believe). Mine was so messed up the knee doc told me after my first surgery he couldn't even forcibly bend my knee without it disclocating. Even I got full range of motion back, though it took years. Never a good injury but yours sounds slight like my son's was.

Got into the low 140s HR, which is where I like to be as a wu.

CTC - 2818 10:08.2. 1:47.9
704m 1:50.6
1408m 1:49.5
2112m 1:48.8
2816m 1:42.6
02m 1:40.0
Plan was negative splits of 1’ with 1:47.5 on the last but felt well so gave it a little throttle.
