ditto!! great stuff!!
try setting goals each time you get on by playing with the numbers, e.g. try to finish in 25:15, then try for a 2:30 average pace, and so on. Every time I sit down I have a plan, even if I make it up as I go along! if my projected finish is e.g. ending in 35, I,'ll try to round it down to 30.
Once you get down to e.g. 2:25 pace for the 5k then trying having a short break break and try tacking on a 2k, building up to 2 x 5k with e.g. 2 min break at slightly slower pace than your standalone 5k. Then cut out the break!!
Another thing to do is look at the rankings for your age group and set yourself targets this way as well, e.g.get into 40th percentile, then 45th etc.
This is what I did when starting out and am still doing!
You can work up slowly, but at the same time really push yourself along this way... if you want to that is!
51 HWT M - age group verified percentiles based on 2019 season, long term target to get above 75% for all (although maybe not the FM!)

Tougher session to see where I am on my road to recovery. I wanted more than four reps but i knew deep down it was a bad idea. I rested four mins and then did a 5k with varying degrees of intensity. I had to lay on the floor afterwards so it was far from easy
I'll take your 'recovery from illness' pace any day! :)
Don't overdo it!!

10k @HM pace for me today, just not used to these short workouts as wind down to make sure fresh for c2 challenge, doesn't feel right!!

Falling in love with erging is a very important part of improvement. No one trains hard enough when they are doing something that feels like a chore

Thanks guys. Dino, good shout, I'm only a week or so into this but yes, I hit 'just row' and see how I feel, no plan. I'm going to follow your exact route to 10k, thanks. And I will look at those percentiles.

After a weekend of tucking away copious amounts of ale and kebabz, it was back onto the erg this morning for what should have been a nice n' steady'ish 6k, at the pace i planned!!! But, after only a few minutes, it started to feel like a grind  That'll teach me  I was happy to see this one through to the end.

6k - 2:06 - r21 (df132)

Some weights this evening (Arms)
41yo male 5'10 78kg (Rowing since june 9th 2016) PB's 5k 19:22

My goals are simply to keep fit/get fitter and continue to enjoy rowing on the C2 :)

5k test for max pace.

Aimed for 17:47
Finished in 17:43.4

Pace 1:46.3

Pretty happy with that. Last 1000 was much faster than i expected.

Observation. Extra volume in the week from rugby training/playing is good for me.

Closing in on a new PB within a few weeks i think. Slow and steady.

12.5k @ r19 averaged out at 2:00.3 with a HR cap of 145.

I had to slow down to 2:03 for the last 2km to keep my HR under 145 as it was creeping up to 147 at a 2:00 pace.

10k at 2:01.6 a new PB for me.

Old PB was 2:02.6 a month ago. That was hard work. Very difficult to improve!
46 yo. 185cm. 125 kg. Lost 25. Need to lose more!
