Thanks Tom. It's combined with a hangover from the footy last so I'm not sure how bad it is, but my lower back is twingeing too so it's a good time to have a rest.

My first ever 1 hour row today. Stu keeps telling me to row longer.

Took a 1 minute break at the 40 minute mark for some water and a stretch. Lost some valuable meters and wound up at only 13,126m for the hour. A not very impressive 2:17 overall as I was trying to keep my heart rate below 150.

I think I''m still on track for the HM on June 20th.

7:04.7
7:04.5
7:03.5

1:46.0/500m

Shaving time off this routine week by week. Next two weeks I'll try them all in the 1:45's, then go for sub 7:00

Hahahaha, well done mate. I promise you that you don't need to stop for water, it's just your mind playing tricks on you, and the lost momentum is tough to get back. Remind yourself it will hard if you keep going, but it will be harder to stop and restart.

The HM is a mental battle as you will want to stop when you get past 60 mins and from then on you will find excuses to give up. Don't listen to those voices remember why you started it and why you are doing it.

I found the Tom Brady quote "I haven't come this far to only come this far" was useful when I wanted to HD and walk away. I always found that no matter how tough it got, if I wasn't trying to PB, i always eventually got a second wind and the pain eased and it felt relatively comfortable all of a sudden. You have just got to keep pushing on.

You are capable of a HM. Do more 60 min sessions or even a 15k / 10 miles (16,093m) as prep and you will be fine

I've got a huge friction blister on my heel but really wanted to row today... duct tape over a large band-aid... it worked pretty good for this session, but I don't think it will hold for longer then 30mins

Tonight
40min
10216m
1:57.4
24spm
Was going to slow down a bit tonight . Just steady things down but those 1:57s started to creep in and I had to try and keep it under 1:58.
Should have backed off to 2 min splits. Maybe tomorrow lol

Erik it looks to me that your sessions are all pretty intense around that 1:58 pace - wonder if you would benefit from some slower steady pieces around 2:10?

You only went and jinxed it didn't you Stu  Last night I ended up with a raging temperature and feeling like I want to be sick (though I wasn't). My resting heart rate (I'd been lying in bed for hours when I tested it) was 90 :o

Temperature's mostly gone this morning but I ache all over, a bit like the feeling when you've drank way too much the night before. I think I probably ate something that didn't agree with me...

I tend to agree. Perhaps 2:10 is a little on the slow side (Erik's PBs are severely out of date) but perhaps something along the lines of 2:07 like I've been targeting recently. 1:58 doesn't sound like a sustainable pace for regular long pieces, though perhaps I'm just a wimo

@Lindsay - think it depends on his overall training load and whether it impacts his HIT....

On a whim, I managed to match the exact time from my 2K Canadian Indoor Rowing Championship performance in Feburary this morning.

- 1K warmup @ 2:11 / DF 208 / SR 22
- 2K / 7:04.6 / 1:46.1 / DF 144 / SR 29

I'm doing shorter/more intense sessions this season and hoping to crack the 1200m/4min mark. Doing a 5K @ 1:48 is also on my wish list

Thanks for the comments guys

as my session time on the erg increases i have been contemplating dropping down to the UT range rather then the AT that i have been doing them at. i will also need to do a bit of a push to update my PBs.

Can you hang on with updating those PB's for a few days? Then I can knock 5 seconds off my 5k and be able to proudly say: "At one time, I was faster than Dreadfish" .

Lol.... I think a lot of people can say that

Anyway. Tonight I had a little play around with my split times
40 min session again but each 10 min I wanted to try a different split time
First 10 mins was 1:58.0
Second I lost it a little and was trying for 1:59 but ended up with 1:58.2. Grrrrrr
Third was after 2:00.00 but ended up with 1:59.7
Fourth 10 min I backed it way down to 2:02.2 Which was a little lower than I wanted but I sort of expected it as the first 5 strokes of each 10 min I did as power strokes and most were around 1:35.0 to 1:40.0 before I settled back into my rythem.
Most of the final 10 was spent at 2:03- 2:04 and I was really surprised at the result. I would have to say that those splits are my UT2 and I felt really good at the end. I was really tempted to go do some weights and then come back for another session. I may try a full 40 mins at that rate tomorrow and see how that goes.

40 mins
