I thought it was going to be trickier. Actually I did the same thing when I first sat on an erg, tried it on a day I was doing my workout on Saturday at noon, when few people were around

. On Saturday I did it after some rowing, and yesterday after some lifting. Just did 3 sets trying 3 different grips and today I feel sore, specially in the back of my shoulders. I saw it was on 35 kg (from whoever used it before me), felt good and left it right there. I'll just take it slow.

2K@1:44.8 (TIME=6:59.4, SPM=28/28/28/31 per 500m so clearly tired from yesterday as that is low for me, I just wanted to do a 2K and not HD) + 10.5K@1:59.6 + 20mins CORE

5 x 2k.2'r
Av. pace..................1:50.9
SPM.......................34
AHR......................173
At last...a PB!
This was 0.2 faster on average pace and 5bpm lower on an average HR from the peak rates of the 5 reps than my previous best back at the start of May so well pleased.
It helped that it was a lot cooler tonight...so roll on winter!
(av. of the 5 HR peaks was 173 91.5% of max).
62 year old, 72 kilo (159lbs), 5'8''/174cm (always the shortest on the podium!) male. Based in Sussex, just south of London, England. Best recent rows 60 mins.....16011 metres. 30 mins.....8215 metres.

This beats me handily (especially the 1min) even though I am 6 years younger.
Very humbling.

My first HD today on an attempted 15k. Made it to 13k and just wasn't feeling it. Had last week off with no erg on holiday with my family water skiing. Tweaked my lower back a bit from all the pulls. First day back was an easy 10k yesterday. I'm not really sure what went awry today. I'm a bit peeved as I plan to try a HM on June 20th.

It was just a bad day. Remember that annoyance and use that as motivation. The HM is still achievable just stay focused and maybe slow it down a bit. The longer distances can always become an issue without much warning.

I reckon you'll be fine for the 20th - as long as you sit on the erg again consistently prior to the 20th your body will re-set. Just start the HM effort conservatively for the first 10K and take things from there...go for a negative split.

Only my third row in three weeks and my first after five days of norovirus and feeling very sorry for myself. It went better than expected but it was far from easy. The annoying thing is I'm going on holiday next week so i won't get much more in before I have another week off. Looking forward to the holiday though so I'm not complaining!!

Tonight's session
40 mins
10254m
1:57.0
25spm
Cold wet and windy and has been for the last 3 days. Some moron opened the big windows at the gym and it was gusting directly onto the rowers. Idiot got an earful from me. Apart from that expletive laden sentence it was a pretty good session.

@Erik - where in NZ are you? When I came over the weather wasn't that great to my surprise, other than the Northland and Otago areas.

In the capital Wellington. So at the bottom of the North island. Wellington has a reputation of being windy. At the moment it's been non stop rain for over 3 days... down to about 2 or3 degrees celcius and wind up to 100kph. The cold doesn't bother me... the rain doesn't bother me but the wind does my head in.... summer is usually warm and rain free but windy.... unfortunately the two islands funnel the wind. But we love living here as it's a really nice harbour with lots of good fishing and I kayak a fair bit so when it's not so windy it's great to get out
