5k attempted pb. Trying to beat 17:40.6

Went out a little too hard. Then I lost a second trying to fix my music that was too loud. Then I tried to catch up too quickly.

Gave up at 3500. Not happy with that.

Been struggling with anything thay isnt my normal morning slot before breakfast. Was too hot even with two fans and the A.C. on.

Struggled to catch my breath, maybe because I had eaten.

Pb was definitely in reach. Will try again next week.

A PB attempt everything has to be right, as it's all too easy to get derailed. I much prefer rowing early morning on an empty stomach and a full, or partially full stomach always affects me badly.

Next time it'll be yours for the taking. 3.5k is roughly the distance that either makes or breaks a 5k for me. I either suck it up or give up and by 4k it gets a little bit easier again.

This is prep for Just Row competition in three weeks. Format is:

Row 4 mins - rest 2 mins - row 3 mins - 2r - 2 mins - 2r - 1 min and then about seven mins later there's a 12 min session with the first three mins being scored separately from the overall distance...and then seven mins later a final one min session.

The 12 min session was horrible as I tried to hold a 1:41 pace and HDed after about two mins. I tried again at a steady 1:48 pace and HDed just before eight mins.

I'm feeling really lethargic at the moment so it was always going to be a struggle and I really under estimated how tactical this comp is going to be. Tortoise and the hare.

I'll give it another go on Wednesday and possibly just concentrate more on the 12 min session

nice work Anth, and really good pacing for a blind session!
Thanks Martin.

Yeah, i found a pace to pretty much go on, after the first interval... this was a good session for me. I'm actually becoming more accustomed to this interval stuff!!!! I used to absolutely hate it at one time, and would very rarely ever do it as a result. But now for some reason, i'm liking pushing myself harder on the machine. I push myself hard with the heavy weights... so it's maybe that which is rubbing off on me wanting to do more tougher work on the erg :)

Had a colonoscopy in January, all clear as far as they could see but bowel prep wasn't too good so had to go back for another!!! Had that on Friday after a double dose of bowel prep on Thursday. Bowel clean as a whistle this time and all good :D

Joined a 30 min on Rowpro this evening and tank was well and truly empty at mid way, just paddled home. Need a bit more time to refuel after Thursday.....

Did some reading on 30'r20.... Didn't know where to settle in, so started settling around 2:10, felt comfortable so brought the split to 2:05, and rubber banded a split or so on either side after "settling" in to the rhythm.... Followed that with 30'r28 aiming for 2:05 split again, but can't hold 28, guess 26-27 good enough for this time around.

The 30'r20 caused awful amounts of sweat, whereas the 30'r27 I kinda dried up and felt cool. Interesting how the power per stroke changes your body response

Yeah. The psychology is odd as well. Like I wasn't that tired, my brain just went "nope. We are done here"

Any advice on dealing with sweat/heat?

I've literally got the A.C. on lowest temp, And have two stand fans blasting at me. More fans? Sweat bands?

Sweat in the eyes and on the hands is making anything over 3k less fun.

You need to look into how to become more heat adapted e.g. sauna, doing steady sessions on the erg with LESS cooling.

Good point. I have been doing a weekly hot dynamic pilates class (circa 30c) for about six years now so I think that may well have helped with the sweat.

Apart from that i always have sweat bands on my arms and i use liquid chalk on my hands. Stinging sweat in the eyes always annoys me

It's been three weeks since I did a 10 miles Monday morning session, so I needed to get back on track. I tried to keep it to under 145 but I was wrestling with my ego for a lot of this session.
