Psssst, Tenshuu, when the power drops off to below 90% of your 2k-8” watts, you get to stop and blow out your candles. Surprised Lindsay didn’t mention that :?: Have a goodun!

5k Time Trial

Time.................18:23.5
Pace.................1:50.3
DF....................115
SPM..................34(tried lower but it just didn't feel right).

3rd and final go at a decent 5k for the month....but failed!

It was a slight improvement of 3.5 seconds from last week but really not a good performance at all!

It was 24 seconds slower than my SB, 0.8 slower on pace than my 30 minute SB and only 0.1 on pace faster than my 10k SB....so tells me I've got work to do!

No excuses....I just ain't in good enough shape...but will be doing my best to change that in the next few weeks.
62 year old, 72 kilo (159lbs), 5'8''/174cm (always the shortest on the podium!) male. Based in Sussex, just south of London, England. Best recent rows 60 mins.....16011 metres. 30 mins.....8215 metres.

Just a 30r20 this evening.

30 min - 7760 - 1.55.9 - 20

06 - 1551 - 1.56.0 - 20 - 134
12 - 1552 - 1.55.9 - 20 - 142
18 - 1553 - 1.55.9 - 20 - 148
24 - 1552 - 1.55.9 - 20 - 152
30 - 1553 - 1.55.9 - 20 - 153

My erg needs a bit of TLC, mainly around the metal foot plate brackets and the two hanger bolts. Both bolts snapped ages ago and the holes they go through are both corroded away. Has had a bit of a hard life though and done 50 to 60 million metres, probably 90% of them outdoors. Plenty of sweat and dissimilar metals don't go together well :D

Sure....5K or max 1hr effort both overwhelmingly aerobic. You seem to get some big variations. I see a far slower change in performance - the downside to that being I don't class myself as a good responder to training.

Tried to get a 10k in before month's end but wedding hangovers and rowing never mix for me. I knew after five mins this wasn't a good idea, and the excuses were flowing faster than my sweat. I picked up the last 1km just as a bit of punishment.

This was my ego ruling my head today as I was aiming for a PB rather than just rowing and seeing where I ended up.

With a 2k time trial approaching in a few weeks, I was tempted to do a trial run to see how my strategy would play out, but thought better of it. I hate pushing for a personal best and coming up short. Still, I thought I needed to push myself into an anaerobic row every few days up to race day to make sure my muscles remember how to push really hard.

So, I did 3 sets of 2k, in an attempt to improve each rep. Prior to the start, my goal was to set a pace of 1:45, 1:44 and 1:43 with each successive rep.
4:00 rest between each rep.
My personal best is 6:38.4, achieved February 2.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HR
20:52.9 6,000m 1:44.4 308 1358 31 173
6:58.9 2,000m 1:44.7 305 1348 31 170
r: 4:00 28m
6:55.6 2,000m 1:43.9 312 1373 32 174
r: 4:00 37m
6:58.4 2,000m 1:44.6 306 1352 31 176

You can see the third rep was a bit slower than the 2nd, despite my intent to squeeze out a 1:43 pace for it. 400 meters left of that last rep and I thought I was going to crap my pants and puke at the same time. Still, not bad. A lot of discomfort in the final 400, that's for certain.
100M - 16.1 1 Min - 370 500M - 1:25.1 1k - 3:10.2 4:00 - 1216 2k 6:37.0 5k 17:58.8 6k - 21:54.1 30 Min. - 8130 10k - 37:49.7 60:00 - 15604
