No sleep, mad stressed these days. Got in about 7k OTW before we had to take it in to stop a guy's car from getting towed. 3k warmup, 2x3' of seat racing. Good stuff, got in maybe 2000m of pressure due to poor alignment on the first piece (my boat went hard after 10 strokes, the other boat took its damn time). But the eight I was in won both pieces by over a length, felt great to crank away at that oar.
Will be back on the erg tomorrow after a decent nights sleep. No sense in killing oneself.

Today’s IP (#36) called for 2 X 3’ TR. This seemed like a good opportunity to sneak in a 1’k TT, so I did that instead of the 2nd TR piece. I am still unsure of what pace range to use for TRs. The actual IP schedule calls for 2:20-2:08 (128-167 watts) for TRs and 2:08-2:04 (167-184 watts) for the ANs. I had been using 2:20-2:14 (128-145 watts) for ATs, so I decided to use 2:14 to 2:04 for the TRs and 2:04 to 2:00 (184-203 watts) for the ANs. Since my recent 500m TT came in at 1:55.0 (203 watts), that AN range seems a bit slow.
Today’s crappy results tell me that those range choices are not out of line. With a time of 4:10.3, my 1k pace was 2:05.1, over 10”off my 500m pace (but not inconsistent with my recent 2k pace of 2:09.8). The worst part about the execution of that TT was that I came to a dead stop twice to get my breath – a classic fly and die, as can be seen from the positive splits.

P.S. Even as slow as that 1k was, the new number helped out my nonathlon score. It was about 10 seconds faster that the old one I used (the first have of a 2k) and gave me a gain of 43 nonathlon points. Since that was the main reason for doing it at this time, it was one positive result of an otherwise lousy workout. My HRs were a mixed bag. I barely made it into the AT range on the 1st piece, but was well in the (lower) TR range for most of the TT.

About 15k OTW, 10k of drilling and steady state and a 5k piece. Was sort of rough but we can hold it together for the 2.5 miles at Schulykill.
On the erg, great success!

18 miles on the bike, commuting to and from work. (The hills were especially challenging since, in addition to my normal supply of clothes, food, and books I was carrying three textbooks.)
Then,
1001 meters warm up
12K in 44:32.6 (1:51.3)
1001 meters cool down

We had a 3K TT in our gym yesterday. 12 min to warm up, then 10:15.2 (1:42.5 pace), new PR. Actually beat my old 10 min PR of 2918 (2925'ish). Splits started at 1:43.8 improving to 1:41.1, but I didn't have a single pull below 1:40 that I can remember. 28~29 spm, slightly higher resistance than normal. Then did core strength class, and 30 more minutes on the spin bike at a moderate intensity (too tired for much more).
I actually feel more tired than I did last week when I did 16152/60:00 (1:51.4 pace) on the last day of the FRC at the tail end of an 11 day blitz (10 days rowing). These short hard ones take a lot more out of me than much longer sessions even at a solid pace.

I was supposed to row 12K easy today. I rowed 5K at about 1:53, then thought I should slow to 1:56, then thought that slowing down would be boring so I just quit.

IP #37, 3 X 13' UT1.
Goals: Pace 2:20-2:26, HR 128-139
Results:
1st: 2:21.6 and 124
2nd: 2:20.9 and 134
3rd: 2:20.2 and 135
In the first piece, it took over 6 minutes to get my HR into the zone, but on the 2nd and 3rd, it was up there within the 2nd minute. On the third, it was right up to the top for almost all the last half of the piece and even went over by a beat or two a few times.
A boring, routine workout, but the results were worthwhile.
