First row

Hi there, So the C2 finally arrived and i managed to make enough space in the garage to get it put up. So in my first row i managed - 5min warm up (1022m) 2k (9.18) 5 min cool down (1093m).

So a few questions:

I guess we have to start somewhere but most blogs i read there are people putting in 6 min 2K's so i have a long way to go but how does this first time compare with other people's first row?

I have been told i should do some challenges - how do i do these. I can only see the holiday challenge on the C2 site and i cannot see how to join this. but are there others. Or do you think that people are telling me to make up my own challenges> if s what would be a good place to start?

I hurt this morning but it feels like i've done some exercise - i only have myself to blame.

It's very slow. You're not working hard enough so you have some technique issues to deal with. My first 2K was around 7:50, my best is 6:59.0. (but I'm only 5'7".)

Start with basics:

1. Drop the damper lever down to somewhere between 3 and 5 (drag factor 115-125).
2. Make sure your feet aren't too high, set the footplates so your ankle bone is level with the rail.
3. Lift the monitor arm so the monitor is at eye-level when you're sitting upright.
4. Get the sequence of the stroke: Legs-body-arms-hands away-arms-body-legs
5. Drive hard, recover slowly.
6. Search on here (and on http://concept2.co.uk/forum) for the frequently posted technique videos. Watch the video AND read the comments. If you can take a video and post it on YouTube.
7. Take a look at http://c2ctc.com and http://www.nonathlon.com for some alternative challenges.

All good advice. Regarding challenges, the Holiday Challenge starts Thursday! Go to the C2 website and register to have an online log book under "online tools". That's all there is to "entering" the challenge. All you have to do now is row, alot, and enter it in the log book, C2 takes care of tracking it.

Don't worry, I have a friend who got his erg the day before Thanksgiving, and he finished the 200k before Christmas, so it is doable.

Have fun!
