Why do these C2's roll?

Is there a benefit to rolling? And how did they get them to roll?

They are on slides. C2 sells them. Do a search and you will find a several different opinions.
Basically they have a different feel--more like on the water. They are a bit easier on the lower back. They help with some technical issues and hurt with others. They seem to help with the split on short distances because they make it easier to row at a higher rate.
