Breaking seven minutes for 2K

Post by ttveg » December 19th, 2013, 3:07 pm

Greetings...
I am a cyclist and using the erg for some x training over the winter whilst its cold and dark outside.
I am starting to get a bit obsessed with the idea of breaking seven minutes for 2K I am managing to shave seconds off but not big chunks.
I have managed to get to 7:21
How long did it take you?
:-)

Depends on size, fitness and knowhow. Could be done first time, or never.

You need good endurance to get to 302W for 7'

Take a look at the times in my sig. you need to be as quick for 5k, 30' & 10k to break seven mins.

I broke 7 a few months into my first season of on the water rowing on a corporate coed 8 in 2012. Started going to erg classes once a week at the boathouse in OKC a few weeks into the season. I was in pretty good shape when I started and once the technique was there 7 was no problem.

Not enough data to answer, if you are a 40 year old 5' 0" 120 pound female, it will be next to impossible, if you are a 25 year old 6' 6" 200 pound male, you should have done it by now.

ttveg is going to be 50 very very soon! ;)

He's six foot, but skinny. Same genetics as me, so he should be able to get there.

ttveg, I think your pacing should start slower and get faster. Rather than trying to keep even splits all the way through, speed up as you begin to anticipate the joy of stopping hurting yourself!

Since buying a C2, and starting this round of erg training in January (I did some at a gym in the mid 2000s), I sneaked under the 7 minute barrier 3 or 4 weeks ago. So hard training, and upping your pace whenever you can Just Works. You get faster!

And you'll never knock chunks off an event as short as the 2k once you are at a reasonable level of fitness (which you are).

Seconds is how you will progress. Patience!
