SkiERG PM5 CODE 1904 -98

Post by Gadodado » January 23rd, 2015, 7:31 pm

Hello Everyone, just recently got a SkiERG and since day one I have the following Error show on the PM5 Display sporadicly Code 1904 -98 (This PM5 may have a problem. Record the code number then press Continue. If this code appears again contact Concept 2 for help.) I press continue and the display continues to provide the same error and if I continue to press Continue it will erase the display and will show nothing on it UNTIL I remove the USB key that is attached to the back (that cool Concept2 USB key and then the PM5 will return to normal I think the error may be related to that USB key since day one that error appear and it got clear by removing the USB key but I intended to contact Concept2 for support but never got around it now its getting more and more often and I will like to know if is a bad USB key the problem (as some times the display will show that the USB key is on FAT32 file system) but the USB key as soon it got our of the box when to the Skierg PM5 back USB connection and never got used on anything and I will like to get that I have stored in it before I reFormat it or replace it.

Do any one more got a similar problem like me?

Thank you.

I saw this same error on a PM5 a couple of days ago. After some testing I found some steps which reproduce the problem on multiple PM5s, and I submitted a detailed bug report to Concept2. These are on version 22 so hopefully it will be fixed soon. To reproduce:

1. Plug in a USB stick with a logbook. Mine was a 2GB FAT32 formatted USB 2.0 device by pqi. The logbook had been cleared of workouts using the C2 Utility.
2. Select Main Menu / USB LogBook / LogBook Utilities / Move Workout
3. Select a workout from the PM5 and use the magnifying glass button to view it
4. Press the 2nd button up from the bottom twice. This is unmarked on this screen and should display the workout's verification code.
5. This results in error "Code 1904 -98". Pressing Continue and the error continues to be displayed. Each time Continue is pressed I can see the USB LED flickering meaning the PM5 is trying to access the filesystem.
6. Removing the USB stick and pressing Continue shows the workout summary but with the empty symbol below it where the details would normally be. It also shows my name as if the USB stick was still plugged in.
7. Pressing the Menu button repeatedly eventually gets the goodbye screen (which normally happens just after you remove a USB logbook) and then the PM5 is fine.

There are likely other ways to trigger it. It may be that it's actually my pqi drive which triggers it with the above and other people won't see the problem with other manufacturers. The page below says that this is related to the USB drive and Concept2 is working on a permanent fix for this error. My suspicion is it relates to the speed of the USB stick's filesystem access and the PM5 making assumptions about when data should be available to its internal functions, then throwing a wobbly when the data isn't there waiting at that exact point.

What firmware version is it running? Upgrade to V22 and see if that fixes it. You may also need to replace your batteries.

Hi, as per post they're already on 22, and they have 100% battery. C2 has replied and confirmed the bug, it appears to be a logic bug which will be fixed in due course. Note the OP's instance may be related to the same logic issue or something else, it will be interesting to see if it crops up again once C2 has addressed it. It'd be worth trying other USB sticks to see if it's related to the timings of a particular device/brand.

Chris

You need to write an email to skiing@concept2.com to make sure the folks at C2 are fully aware of this issue.
