Using SkiErg and Rower

Hey Peeps,
Imagine alternating intervals on the SkiErg and Rower. You have two PM5s, but (presumably) one HR monitor. Can the HR monitor link to the two PM5s at the same time? And will ErgData talk to the two PM5s at the same time also.
I'm thinking of adding a SkiErg to my rower, but I'm curious how the two PM5s will get on.

For a slave device like a HR monitor BTLE is a point to point connection only and can connect to one master only. Same with Ergdata where the phone is also a BTLE slave.

Thanks! So how do people who mix rower and SkiErg manage? Two HR monitors, and two tables/phones for ErgData?

I believe that if you use a ANT+ HR monitor you can connect to both PM5s (I have not verified). If you use a dual mode monitor using ANT+/BTLE like the Wahoo TICKR or Scosche Rythm+ you can definitely connect to different devices with each band.

I've never done, but I'm pretty sure you can connect one ANT+ HR transmitter to multiple receivers.
For example, the fact that when you begin your session the PM will present you with a choice of HR devices (if several are in range) suggests that multiple receivers can pick up the signal.

OK thanks, I'll check out Ant+ HR monitors.
I still think each erg will need a separate phone or table running Ergdata, yes?

Yes you need two connections to get both on ergdata. Makes sence, if more machines could get on your connection it could get messy in a gym etc..

The Wahoo Tickr connects to both the rower and SkiErg at the same time.

Send an email to
rowing@concept2.com give details of your version of Ergdata, the PM5 firmware versions and ask for this as new feature in the next version of firmware or Ergdata.

I used a bikeerg and rowing together in a few sessions. I set up the bikeerg with ergData on I think the iPad and then started the session on the erg with boatcoach or ergdata with an android device. It worked but that was a few months ago and there have been updates in ergdata and firmware since then.

Posting here to see if anyone knows of an update for this. Just got a skierg and would like to do synced workouts with it and the rower at the same time with ergdata.

You need 2 devices, 1 per machine, ergdata can,t recieve data at the same time from 2 machines. So 2 foons, or foon/ipad etc.

After a bit of development, we just released an "Ergathlon" feature for the PM5. You can now link monitors and do a series of multi-machine workouts, and the primary monitor will collect the data from each piece, including transition times. If you're using a HR belt, it will follow you to each machine and be included in the final results. Connection to ErgData at the same time is easy, so the entire workout gets automatically uploaded to the logbook. Check out the details here:
https://www.concept2.com/news/introducing-ergathlon
Note that the workouts are limited to a set of four standard distances (all rank-able on the C2 Logbook), but three machines is not a requirement. You can just complete two of the legs (in any order), but in this case it is not rank-able. It only requires one button push to restart after completing an ergathlon if you're interested in longer stretches of intervals. We're excited about this new way to work multiple machines at once. Have a try and let us know what you think.
