I'm looking for any helpful suggestions regarding uneven resistance in left and right-hand pull on my SkiErg.
Problem:
Left-hand side has a significantly lighter pull.
It feels like the left hand is set at DF50 and the right hand at DF150.
There is almost no resistance at the bottom of the pull.
I have contacted C2 support. They didn't offer anything meaningful.
I have replaced the clutch spools and installed new (C2) shock cords.
I've been dealing with this for almost a year.
I've tried everything I could think off. I've disassembled every component (twice), carefully inspected, cleaned and lubricated every surface.
This particularly goes for small white pullies that drive the bungees.
Machine is generally in good order. Home use only by me. Around 13M meters over ten years.
I've experimented with different bungee cords, and tried switching all the spools, pullies, cords etc. from left to right. Problem always stays on the left-hand side.
After the new components and lubrication the drive is butter-smooth. No grinding, scraping or odd noises. Drag factor range is as it was on the first day.
I will add that when the problematic left-hand side is used singly I can not detect any issue.
Only when double-polling the left looses resistance.
Only way I can use the machine is by taking about 1m of slack from the left side bungee cord, thus increasing the resistance.
It is never exactly right, and I have to adjust the slack often.
Only suggestions from C2 was to change the clutch spools and bungees, which made no difference at all.
Any help welcomed.
Thank you.
SkiErg uneven pull
Re: SkiErg uneven pull
Sounds like one of the clutch bearings is nearly worn out or sticky. Part 2784 in the schematic below.
I have experience only with rowers, so I'm not exactly sure about these, but rower clutch bearing problem is often solved by rinsing with mineral spirit, drying, and lubricating with motor oil or 3-in-one. Otherwise replace the part. If you contact C2 they will sell you one.
