Sore behind

Post by N5girl » June 22nd, 2011, 9:51 am

Hi

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I have been using my machine on and off for the last 7 years. I have resumed more regular training on my machine in the last month. I have taken it nice and slow and not gone mad. I work out a lot (cycling/spinning, yoga/pilates).

When doing sessions of more than about 15 mins on my machine, I get pain on both sides of my bum. The pain feels like I am sat directly on my sit bones without any muscle or skin protecting them. I don't get this pain when cycling, only when rowing. The pain is the same on a number of different machine (home and various gyms). The pain goes away the minute I leave the rower. I don't have a bony bottom - mother nature has given me generous padding.

I have never had issues with the seat on my rower before - I have had blisters before but only when doing distances longer than a half marathon.

I have a tight right hamstring but this is nothing new and the pain is on both sides and is just as bad on the left as the right. I don't have any backache.

Today I had to sit on a towel in the gym, which helped for about 5 minutes and then the pain resumed.

Any help/suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Two suggestions:

1. Sit as far forward on the seat as you can.
2. Think about investing $3.50 for a concept2 seat pad. It has cutouts for your sitz bones and I've heard that it has helped others.

It could be due to your posture on the erg.
You need to have a straight back and be sitting up. If you start to slouch that could make things more uncomfortable.
