Elbow Pain
First of all, hello everyone.
I recently entered the indoor rower world by buying a new Concept 2 model d rowing.
I bought it about 3 days ago and my priority is to get the right form. However, there is a situation that bothers me. I've had a pain in my elbows since I started rowing. And this pain scares me I hope it's not a permanent problem. What do you think is the cause of the pain in my elbows? Where am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance to everyone who helped.

Re: Elbow Pain
How bad is the pain, and what was your former exercise regime? If you're not used to holding the handle, you will need time to adjust. How long are you rowing for?
Make sure you're not gripping the handle too tight, there's no need to do that.

Re: Elbow Pain
Welcome to the forum.
As was suggested above, there's a decent chance that your issue is that you're gripping the handle too tightly.
One way to avoid this is to put your thumbs over, not under the handle. Doing that solved my elbow problem.

Re: Elbow Pain
It's been 3-4 days since I started rowing. Before, I used to do running, push-ups and pull-up exercises. The severity of the pain is not too much, but I can say moderate. It occurs more when I move my arm and elbow. Thank you for your answer.Dangerscouse wrote: ↑January 26th, 2021, 3:33 pmHow bad is the pain, and what was your former exercise regime? Re: Elbow Pain
I remember that I usually held the paddle pulling handle tight. I'll try the technique you said, I hope it works. I bought the Concept 2 with great enthusiasm and now this elbow pain caused a great sadness. I hope it unravels and get on my shovel for many years. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Elbow Pain
Inside? It could simply be that the pulling motion is to much right now. Endurance wise, most people are not used to pulling so much volume.gelirdogukan wrote: ↑January 26th, 2021, 2:20 pmFirst of all, hello everyone.

Could also be a technique matter, maybe you overuse you upperbody in favor of the legs.
Drag, setting could be high, start out lower. High drag is not needed to use this machine.
Lasy ease in to the training, keep the volume low enough, in time your elbows will adjust. Give it enough time.

Re: Elbow Pain
Don't worry too much, and follow what others have said above. I really think it's just a small issues that have compounded. You're probably using really small muscles that you haven't used recentlygelirdogukan wrote: ↑January 27th, 2021, 4:04 amIt's been 3-4 days since I started rowing. Re: Elbow Pain
This is the way.
I had similar elbow issues when starting. The went away quickly and never returned now that I no longer tuck my thumb under the handle.

Re: Elbow Pain
All good answers above. Combination of too much, too fast, too soon, too much enthusiasm in addition to poor technique. Rest, ice, anti-inflammatory meds. Pain on little finger side? Golfers elbow. Pain on thumb side? Tennis elbow. Google is your friend. A search will reward you with specific strengthening & stretching exercises. Some type of elbow brace may also help.
Age & gender also can be factors in injury/re-injury. Enthusiasm can often exceed our body's ability to adapt to new stressors. If in doubt, better to do less or take a rest day. Ask me how I know.
Best wishes on a speedy recovery.

Re: Elbow Pain
I occasionally get this. I use a jigsaw with a massage tip to loosen my forearms and upper arms to alleviate this. I havent tried the thumb technique but no doubt it helps by changing the torque of the pull.gelirdogukan wrote: ↑January 26th, 2021, 2:20 pmFirst of all, hello everyone.

Re: Elbow Pain
I took a break from rowing for 2 days to rest and tried again today. I still have tenderness and mild pain in my elbows. I hope it will go away with time..

Re: Elbow Pain
There is pain in the part where my little finger is. On the outside of my elbow. I think it's tennis elbow. Before, I was doing push-ups and pull-ups every day and my elbows were ok. Pain started on the first day I started rowing. I hope this is an adjustment phase and the pain will not be permanent.hjs wrote: ↑January 27th, 2021, 4:38 amInside?
