Does anybody else get shinsplints from rowing?
I am surprised, since I row 70% of my volume strapless.
I do go slightly past vertical shins on the catch.

No, that's never been an issue for me. In recent years I row 90-95% of the time strapless, and I also probably go a bit beyond vertical at the catch.

I always thought they were more of an impact sport related injury

Not suffered from this myself. Do almost all my rowing strapless as well (but tend to avoid getting as far as vertical shins as I have issues with nerve pinching / blood flow in my right leg)

No problems with it, all rowing with straps.
I don't think shins past vertical at the catch would create such problem, as it is more related to flexion of the foot, which happens on the recovery (even unstrapped).

Have a lot of experience with shin splints, but from running, never rowing. I've heard that strengthening the anterior lower leg muscles via reverse calf raises helps in prevention.
