Guilty!!

Post by wyattwyatt » January 17th, 2018, 1:05 am

Hi All,

Been doing Concept2 rowing for 20+ years now and I like the affiliations and teams as it keeps me motivated. I recently got a BikeErg (love it) and joined Zwift (love it) and am starting to rack up lots of meters as cyclists often do.

For challenges (Holiday Challenge) BikeErg meters are halved which is fair and just as the effort is half the effort of rowing. But my affiliation meters are counted full on without being cut in half. I notified Concept2, but there has been no change so i assume that is how they want it.

Now i know nobody probably cares (?), but i feel kind of guilty logging my meters now as I pass other members of my team knowing I'm working half as hard. I can't cut my meters in half myself as then that will screw up my other counts where the meters are halved already.

So this is probably all pretty silly to worry about, but I tend to fixate on details and I can't figure out the logic here. Can anyone provide some clarity?

May be there ought to be three running totals, rowing, skiing and biking...

Hi Wyatt,

I can only speak for myself, but during both the Holiday Challenge and the current V-Team Challenge my BikeErg meters are only counting as half. I get full calorie "credit" for the Jan Big Burn, but meters are only showing 1/2 credit for the group challenges where meters are the measuring device. I do see actual bike meters in the log and my monthly totals.

The lifetime and season meters count every meter equally regardless of machine. Since an affilliation seems to just total a group of people's season meters, it all makes sense. However, if the bike erg really becomes popular, the meter boards may become dominated by cyclists for two reasons:
1. The obvious fact that I can bike 10k in half the time I can row 10k.
2. Cyclists generally tend to do higher mileage than rowers.

C2 has solved the challenges by counting bikeerg meters by half, but the overall seasonal meter board and the related affiliations will favor the bikers. Ironically, since I have been using Zwift, I pay less attention to meters now as I'm totally focused on watts!
