Smartwatch recommendations

Post by Tom Gunner » July 2nd, 2022, 4:28 pm

I am upgrading my smartwatch in the hope of finding a cheapish watch that can sync with the PM5 monitor. I know some or all Garmin watches do this, so that you a session started on the BikeErg will automatically start on the watch. Looking at C2’s website, I know that the watch needs Bluetooth Smart to be able to do this wirelessly. I know the advice is to use a chest strap, but I don’t mind about total accuracy. I’ve been using my Huawei Honor Band 5 to monitor heartrate and calories on my BikeErg at home and the Peloton in the gym. But Huawei makes it hard to get your data off the Huawei Health app, it’s not easy to sync with Strava and none of their watches have Bluetooth Smart. According to this article (in a table at the end), the Fitbit Versa 3 has Bluetooth Smart, but C2 Customer Service queried this and this is the only article that mentions this feature. Ideally the watch would have a long battery life and GPS so I can use it on long bike trips overseas. Any recommendations? Is there a list of smartwatches that can sync with the PM5? C2 don’t have one.

Don't know if this helps, but when I use the ErgData app on my iPhone linked to the PM5, that syncs to my Fitbit account (via the log.Concept2.com > My Account > Edit Profile > Applications) so the workout is recorded there without me having to do anything..

So there isn't a direct link between the Fitbit and the PM5, but the data gets to the Fitbit account for calories, workout, heart rate effort etc..
