Connecting heart rate monitor without PM5?

Post by ablickle » April 14th, 2025, 12:19 pm

Has anybody been able to connect a heart rate monitor to Ergdata when using the StrengthErg without a PM5? My HRM connects easily with the PM5 on my Dynamic row erg, but I have not found a way to connect it to the StrengthErg that does not have a PM5. The same HRM connects easily to the Runkeeper and Supercycle apps on my Android phone, so I would think there should be a way to connect it to the Ergdata app as well...
Thanks for any suggestions!

ErgData needs a PM5 to pick up HR data directly, without it, it won’t connect to your HRM. You could try a third-party app to track HR separately while using ErgData just for metrics, but no direct sync without PM5. Bit of a limitation, really.

The older ergdata for PM3 and PM4 had the HR connect to the phone app via Ant. Using a wired connection from the PM3 everything was merged in ergdata.

So, the strength erg has no monitor?
Maybe use some other health type app to record activities?

I had an email conversation with Ezra at Concept2 support. It looks like the current version of Ergdata does not support HRM connection with the StrengthErg, but they hope to have it in a future version in a few months...

As general info for folks who are interested in the StrengthErg - you don't need to order it with a PM5, you can just use Ergdata to connect directly to the StrengthErg (NFC) and use Ergdata for all your data. It works well, except for HRM, for now...
