StrengthErg Rep countdown before actual set...

Post by NO4BALL » May 13th, 2025, 8:01 pm

Hey team! Does anyone know why the StrengthErg counts down 3 reps before starting the workset? My thought was to get the flywheel spinning so that the work could be measured once the set began. Can anyone confirm this?

The downside of this ramp-up is the expended effort that can be lost on real reps towards the end of the set.

I've been ramping up the 3 countdown reps so that the last (#1) is closet to my max effort entering the actual work set. This seems to allow for a better average across the workset.

Let me know what you think. I'm used to powerlifting schemes like 5x5 and 531 and was curious about this with the StrengthErg.

Asked that on a c2 merch, when I was at the German nationals. This is to calibrate in case the flywheel setting was changed before the set.
So your approach with lighter reps and building up to actual work load seems appropriate.

@Sakly: Thanks so much for the explanation! Yes, that makes sense so the workset data is measured correctly. More practice with the Erg will help to dial in technique and strength data.

You're welcome!
This was indeed the first question I had when I tried the strength erg
