Honesty with online ranking

Post by hobo » June 23rd, 2009, 8:52 am

Last year I came across a rower who claimed to have done a 2K in 5:39 without breaking a sweat. This year I see there is someone who claims to have achieved a nice round 20 000m for a 1 hour row. Too bad he didn't check the world records, because his "time" breaks the world record by about 1800m for his age group! Unsurprisingly, it's not a verified time.

Do these guys think we're dumb?

They either think we're ALL dumb or they have a misconfigured monitor.

If you have a PM3/4 on a model D/E that's configured for a model B/C then you get wild and wonderful results. A model D set to 120 drag factor registers 300 drag when misconfigured in that way.

Drag Factor

Post by Bobby y » July 14th, 2009, 9:41 am

I am a bit new to this (I have been rowing about 6 months as a general fitness kick with combined training but have got the bug!).

I am pleased to say I have just cracked 7 mins for the 2k (6.58.3) but I am interested to know which drag factor setting is used for the records and for competitions.

I always set the machines to the hardest setting - 10 and I know the state of the machine, lint build up, ambient air movement etc affect the real drag factor but as a rule what level are the competitions set at - assuming level 10 is 200?

Cheers.

It's your choice. There are no predefined specs for most competitions.

Check the drag with the monitor. On PM3/PM4 main menu --> more options --> display drag factor. On a PM2/PM2+ press [OK] and [REST] together.

For a competition when the machines are in "warm-up mode" the drag is displayed in the middle of the monitor screen. So it's simple to check it and set it to your prefered level. That part of the display is blanked when the venue racing software is in "prepare to race" mode or when the race is running.

I row everything on a drag somewhere between 120 and 125.

I am doing the Fall Challenge and yesterday check for the lider. Suprisingly she did over 1,000 Km in 16 days. This is over 60 km per day. Is this possible?

Take a look at http://www.worldrecordrow.com Dave Holby is trying to get 40,075,000m rowed. He's just past halfway. For his current sessions he's rowing 100K/day for ten days.
