Tapering for a 2K
Tapering for a 2K
I am racing at the world police fire games at the end of August. Does anyone have a good taper for an indoor 2000m race. How long before the race you should begin a taper. How many days rest should you take prior to the race? When I raced (in regattas) years ago I don't remember what we did for a taper I think basically we just were forced to take days off because of travel time. Thanks for any advice.
Re: Tapering for a 2K
Try using the last five weeks of a c2 (UK) interactive training plan, being sure to put in your exact data, number of w/o a week etc.
After a year's 5k a day slow work, this method, a long time ago, won me medals in Rome, Brum and Paris. It was the year's work however, the fundamental part, and of course the oppositon, mostly weightlifters only.

There is not a single answer - you need to consider the condition of the individual. I competed in the CRASH-B's this past February. My training the week before leading up to the race:
Sunday, February 13th - Off
Monday, February 14th - 30 minutes farlek (900 m easy / 100 m hard) - 8,583 total meters
Tuesday, February 15th - Easy 10,000 (35:45 total)
Wednesday, February 16th - Moderate 10,000 (34:41 total)
Thursday, February 17th - 25 minutes fartlek (750 m easy / 100 m hard) - 7,192 total meters
Friday, February 18th - Very easy 10,000 (36:28 total)
Saturday, February 19th - Off
Sunday, February 20th - CRASH-B (2,000 - 6:00.4)
This worked for me - I felt very fresh on Sunday. Good luck.
