Queensland IRC

Post by lindsayh » June 22nd, 2015, 8:25 am

Just FYI

The Queensland IRC Sat/Sunday on the Sunshine Coast just north of Brisbane Australia (about 1000km from home for me).
http://qldir.com/results/ (results not there yet)

About 120 participants including some young ones so still pretty small but good for this part of the world where numbers are small and distances great.
We make up small numbers by having lots of events!
7 events over 2 days including a team 4x 500m relay and a 500m tandem event.
I was intent on a really fast (for me) 2km so saw it as a TT rather than a race and lots of self talk to convince. The other priority was the 1km first thing on Sunday.
So:
Saturday
2km = 6:46.1 @1:41.5 so new PB and an Australian record - really pleased as don't get many opportunities for a flat out racing 2km and goals achieved.
4min - 1179 @1:41.5 (just holding it strong but not pushing)
300m = 50.7 @1:24
4x 500m team relay - last leg @1:28 or so.

Sunday
1000m = 3:11.4 @1:35.7 - fastest race time and I think second fastest ever
500 @1:28.5 - didn't push too hard
500m tandem event - did 1:32.5 for my side - legs were really starting to struggle

Only a few off us did all the races but it was a good fun 2 days.
Some highlights:
Fastest 2k was 6:16.0 by Dave Williams (48y) he also did 3:00.1 for 1km
he is a very fine athlete who recently did HM = 1:12:40 @1:43.5!!
Fastest lady was 50+ and did 7:33
Oldest was 90+ Vincent who is blind and helped onto the erg by his grandson and missed 2 of Bob Spengers WRs by a few seconds - amazing.
80+ Tibby Rose improved one of her WRs as well.
My erg buddy Terry (70+ lwt) took time off both his ARs - 7:19.8 and 3:32.4

Naturally I am curious about Vincent's results, but I didn't find them reported on that website. It looked like everything was listed in the results, so I thought that the report was complete.

Bob Vincent's results are now in the rankings (you should get yours in too)
his times were 500 = 1:59.5, 1000 = 4:18.0 and 2km = 9:20.1 so all pretty good
The full results of the day are not yet on the site though

??? My data is all posted in the rankings, but the three short pieces were all done before the end of the 2015 season. Actually, there are 3 missing, the 3 LWT times, since the rankings show only one item per event/person/age group/season. I wasn't able to post both the HWT and LWT results in that same season. It was the same for the other events as well. My recent HWT 6k was done in the new season, so the LWT from last season should still be there intact.

Vincent's times on the 500m and 1k were excellent. Very close to beating my HWT times. I am lucky that he was competing as a HWT. He beat my LWT 500m time and I think that he beat my 1k time as well. It looks like he needs to work on endurance to improve his 2k. The fact that he did all 3 in such a short time span makes it more impressive. I was able to spread mine out over several days (except for the one day when I ended up having to do 2 500m pieces due to a date setting screwup).

I just checked on that LWT 1k and, sure enough, it was a tad slower than his, 4:18.1, so he edged me by a tenth of a second. On the 500m it was several tenths. I didn't even break 2' on that one.
