Got my plane ticket and registration, I'll officially be at Crash-B this year.

Would really like to break 6:20, but I know that hockey arena floor can be a tough environment to PR in. I just hope I have a good piece.

I have never been to a rowing competition before and I will be coming from 6 hours away. I think I have a bad habit of jumping into the deep end of things. All I am hoping for is a time that is close or past a personal best, and maybe a photo or two.
My recommendation would be to come to the arena 1-2 hours before your race and not any sooner. The longer you hang around inside, the more nervous/anxious you get, the more you over-think things, and the more you let the conditions affect you. Afterward you can stay for as long as you want and do some shopping (vendors will be there) and watch other races, but I find that beforehand nothing good comes of sitting in the stands for hours and hours.

Won't be competing this year...Unfortunately wasn't able to properly train in the past couple months. I thought I had signed up but my payment never went through and then I just decided to skip out this year.

Regarding conditions...I had always heard about the dry-mouth thing but didn't actually experience it until last year (after also competing in 2013 and 2014), when it hit me pretty hard just as the race started. So annoying, but quickly I ignored it and just focused on the monitor. Don't know what the remedy is, not sure the chapstick/lip balm suggested as a solution by some is the answer. Maybe keeping the mouth hydrated without actually swallowing the water?

Looking forward to spectating though. I will miss the pressure, nervousness and general thrill of competing, but I don't think I would have done very well.

Good luck everyone!

Don't believe everything you read on the internet!
Other PBs: 1k @ 1:39.9 (March 2015).

Make sure it agrees with you, but I started using Biotene; it's a moisturizer. I spray several times before my event and again after. I've used it at four races this year and this is the first year I haven't had any sore throat/ respiratory issues. It's not just Boston, lots of venues have the same conditions. Since this is your first time, just come out and have a blast. Make sure you find your erg before you go down to warm up. I would say get there at least 2 hours early so you don't stress the process of signing up etc; but as mentioned above not too early. To me an hour is cutting it a bit tight.Just have fun and do your best.Make sure you have a plan and pacing nailed down and stick to it!

For the HWTs, the time is a bit less critical. But, even for them, I agree that an hour is cutting it too tight - especially for a first timer. It is not easy to navigate your way around the arena. I well remember wearing myself out on those blasted stairs.

Seeing names associated with times and ergs makes it all seem more real. I've got my list that I hope to see on the video stream. I wish there was more data. For example, how many attendees are there total? How many repeats from the previous year?

Usually there are around 2,400 participants and the same number of spectators. About half the entries are juniors. Those folks tend to rotate. I think the recidivism rates are pretty high among the masters and veterans. With more and more CrossFitters getting involved, I would not be surprised to see the numbers grow a bit, especially in the open and 30 - 39 categories. Best. - Chris
