Thanks Fred for all the organization work, and thanks Tom B. for lending the ergs to all who needed one.

This year we deliberately didn't hook up RowPro and let the entire world join us. Maybe next year? It would be fun to somehow race the crazy crew of Sledgehammers from nearby Wellesley. We could have them on the same screen?

Cheers,

Paul Flack

By the way, after the row, I was wearing a "Sledgehammer" rowing shirt that I found whilst rummaging through Ernie's kit bag two years ago at CRASH-B. :D

Oh, yes, thanks to the folks at Concept for the stuff in the goodie bags and another mug to add to my collection.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Cambridge vs. Oxford....Wellesley vs. Newton? The Erg Race!

Post by sledgehammer » April 20th, 2006, 7:08 am

Knowing that you guys already have Frank, Paul, Tom B, Adam H. on your team, makes me feel a little like the coach at Oxford in 2004 after losing the The Boat Race by 7 lengths....I am going to have to recruit hard over the next year!!

If we could both get 4 ergs rowing with RP and a internet conection, we should be able to have a 4v4 race with RP as it exists today...right?

Could be a PR bonanza for both C2 and RP. Think of the free stuff they should give us.

Best, Ernie

2: Paul Flack 2:39:52
3: Frank Knight 2:51:40
4: Rick Bayko 2:52:54
5: Fred Millham 3:13:09
For those who don't know, this is former U.S. National champion and former Olympic and World Championship's competitor Adam Holland. Not too shabby.

I think we should plan on doing an Internet connection at least until we find some technical or logistical reason that we can't. I really miss the info you get from being connected with RowPro while I was doing the marathon. It felt more like a time trial than a race.

Frank--

How much fluid do you consume during a marathon? I saw on another thread where you said you "take a drink" every 5k. I'm curious about the volume.

I did 25k a week ago, stopping for a good drink every 5k, and had some cramping when I was done. In all, I drank a liter.

Hi Tom,

This was an outdoor marathon with mostly cloudy sky and temperature in the 50s so I wasn't sweating that heavily. I was drinking Cytomax (a light concentration) every 15 minutes. I drank 24 ounces (33 oz. in a liter) just before and during the marathon. A liter in 25K would be on the high side but if it was warm enough I would probably alternate Cytomax and water.
