What happened to that incredibly fast lightweight that Sub7 had for most of the January CTC who is now gone?

He's fast, but we and others weren't sure if his entry was correct, as it seemed just a little too fast! Asked for screen shot verification but didn't get it in time so I asked that the entry be removed.gregory.cook wrote:What happened to that incredibly fast lightweight that Sub7 had for most of the January CTC who is now gone?

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Congratulations to MAD for winning the January Challenge. Sub7, with 15 boats, had the greatest numbers on the virtual river.
Forum Flyers have the March Challenge, Sub7 April and Age Without Limits have the nomination for May.
BW Rowing continued their phenomenal rise, finishing 2nd this time. As a new team with three consecutive months, they may have the challenge for June but must claim this by contacting me.

Regards,
Joe

I agree. His stories and trip reports were like getting to know him. His advice was top-notch.Citroen wrote:This year we should also row to remember Bob Spenger who was a massive poster (5142 posts) on here.http://www.sierrawave.net/robert-spenger-1924-2017/
Mark Underwood. Rower first, cyclist too.
Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Can I suggest a new rule to be added.
That all challenges must be completed on Static Concept 2 Ergs only.
Reason being: Dynamics or ergs on slides are faster.
Thanks, something to discuss.
P.s. Joe80 I private message you 4 days ago. Just letting you know.

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
It's already covered in the existing rules.
- 5. Slides and / or dynamic ergos can be used, whether that is an advantage has never been determined. The only requirement is that the ergo must be a Concept2 model.
Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
yes I see that rule.
I just mention it as one of BW's top rowers brought this to my attention today, he uses Static but knows personally he is faster on a slider but considers it to be like cheating for him to use. He also has a friend that does not do ctc anymore due to sliders being allowed to be used. Just some feedback from the floor.
There seems a pattern that sliders are faster 1or 2 seconds on a split per 500m over 2k. Eric Murray is one person that has suggested this and this forum here is on the same discussion with some rowers comparing performances on the different machines. https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!top ... 6yNzqoAQEY

Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
The tiny size of the population on sliders/dynamics isn't worth worrying about. The CTC is meant to be lots of fun and a bit of rivalry between teams rather than a serious competition.
Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
Good point.
Re: Cross Team Challenge - Discussion Thread
The slides being faster than static argument only has merit where those that are able to use slides also have a big enough aerobic engine to sustain the higher stroke rate that slides offer and the technique to maximize power at this higher rate.
I did a 2k on slides 4 weeks ago at 6:38.2 and this weekend raced on a static and did 6:38.4. My stroke rate on slides was 1 spm more. Not much of an advantage for this near 50 year old and certainly not enough to ban use of them in the CTC for us normal mortals. Yes Eric Murray would gain an advantage but I don't see him listed.
