New Allround Competition
New Allround Competition
Hi all,
First let me introduce myself, my name is Siebe Jongebloed, I'm from the Netherlands, 53 years old, just this year started rowing on a concept2 and I love it.
I'm a big fan of Allround Speed Skating and they compete on the Allround Speed Skating Championships: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_All ... ps_for_Men.
Something similar in rowing is the The Heineken Roeivierkamp: http://roeivierkamp.nl/regatta/
It is a competition where the winner is the best on rowing on four distances: 250 meters, 750 meters, 2500 meters and 5000 meters.
My idea is to create a similar competition within this topic.
My proposal is to compete on the more well known distances: 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000.
If we agree on which distances to compete on, the math to the winner is: add the 4 x 500m average time of the 4 distances.
I.e.: 500m: 1:35(1:35), 1000m: 3:20(1:40), 2000m: 7:00(1:45) and 5000m: 18:20(1:50) makes 7:00.
Timeframe: I propose season best times, but of course I'm open i.e. all 4 distances within 1 week.
Please let me know what you think.
Regards Siebe

Re: New Allround Competition
good idea - but why not just head on over to the nonathlon page - and see if that doesn't fit your wants ?
advantage is (in my opinion) is that the points awarded are age group dependent and not just based on timings.
this way there is no advantage of sex, age etc.

The all-round, decathlete, generalist, jack-of-all-trades ideal never quite goes out of fashion and shouldn't if only for the illumination it provides on the essential weakness of specialization. I'm going to go watch Le Tour now.

I use several competitions to increase overal fittness. Keeps me motivated. And is less boring.

Indeed, can't watch em pull Marky Cav up to the line every day without noticing! Incidentally, I made money on Cav yesterday, Sagan today. Maybe Greipel tomorrow? But I like the GC guys. Making small losses into big wins for 103 yrs.

I don't get your humor quite yet. Probably because I from Holland.

Join the crowd. Jack's humor is often obscure to many of us on this side of the pond as well. In my own case, I haven't the foggiest idea who any these fellows are, but his reference to Le Tour suggests to me that they are probably cyclists. But then I am a bit vague about most sporting activities of the last 50 years or so.sjors wrote:Marky Cav=Mark Cavendish, but who are the Gc Guys?jackarabit wrote:Indeed, can't watch em pull Marky Cav up to the line every day without noticing! Re: New Allround Competition
It is a reference to Le Tour de France. The "GC" == "classement général individuel au temps" or, in English, the "general classification". That's the overall competition based on total time to complete each stage.
Re: New Allround Competition
Okay, thanks.
The winner of the tour is probably very all round

Re: New Allround Competition
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_classification should explain it. No humor intended. I apologize for the opacity of my reference to specialists and generalists in pro bike racing. Ah, here's Doug with the French. Mercy bocups! Actually, old man, total time to complete all stages. A mere bagatelle of course (French for bagatelle).

Sorry, I thought it was obvious that you had to arrive in Paris on July 24th to win the GC trophy.jackarabit wrote: Actually, old man, total time to complete all stages.

Doug, it's always a pleasure, even when you win with one arm tied behind my back.

Great set of very recent personal bests in your profile, Siebe. You're all set up for the Non-athlon year with 10 months to go.
