Welcome to the forum discussion thread for the CTC (Cross Team Challenge).

The next set of challengers are:
  • December - Age Against The Machine
  • January - Mercian Fitness
  • February - PaddyPower
  • March - Germania
Teams that think they might be eligible to choose a CTC need to contact Joe Keating (Joe80 on here) and apply for a choice.

http://c2ctc.com

Any password resets or new teams please post a request on here.
If you record a wonky result you can replace it by simply recording a genuine result.

Insane results will be deleted when the monthly change over is done (that includes any results recorded after 12:00 (local time in London) on change over day).

The main rules of the CTC challenges:
  1. All challenges should fit into a lunch hour including a warm-up and cool-down. So that's a maximum of 10Km straight distance or 45minutes elapsed time (including interval rest time)
  2. For interval challenges, the team chosing the even must decided whether a flying start on second and subsequent reps is allowed. All challenges must start initially from a stationary flywheel.
  3. Skipping the recovery intervals may be allowed if it's going to lead to a different (slower) result. The team chosing the challenge can decided whether shortened or eliminated resting intervals are allowed or disallowed.
  4. If the challenge is rate restricted then your final average stroke rate as displayed by the PM3, PM4 or PM5 must match the restricted rate for the challenge. For example, a 30 minute rate 20 challenge is still valid even if you make 308 strokes. The PM3, PM4 or PM5 will round that down to rate 20.
  5. For a timed challenge the duration must be an whole number of minutes for example 7 mins is OK. 6'40" isn't OK.
  6. The ergo must be a Concept2 model.
  7. Skiergs can be used (but only by users registered in the SkiErg team). Bikeergs can not be used.
  8. All challenges run from 12:00 (Midday) London time on the first of the month. That allows folks nearer to the Western side of the International Date Line to complete and log their row within the preceding month.
  9. All rowers can only post a result for one team within any one month. You can switch teams on a month boundary.
  10. The use of slides is not permitted.
Finally, the universal rules related to indoor rowing apply:
- light weights must have a body weight less than or equal to 75kg for men, 61.5kg for women.
- it is forbidden to change the damper setting during a challenge

How are the 'boats' decided?
Each boat seats 5 rowers. The seats can only be occupied by certain categories of rower, as follows:

Seats 1, 2 and 3 are OPEN. Anyone may occupy these seats.
Seat 4 is for LIGHTWEIGHTS. Any lightweight, male or female, may occupy this seat.
Seat 5 is for FEMALES. Any female, lightweight or heavyweight, may occupy this seat.
Boats are filled on the basis of fastest qualifying occupant. This is done automatically and there is no scope for a team to 'tactically' fill its boats.

How can I get a new team added?
This is easily done by posting in this CTC thread, by contacting Joe Keating on Facebook, or by private message to me.

Dougie - CTC DBAdmin.

July

3x 2813 on 4 rest.

Slowest rep counts, so pacing needs to be spot on.

Ps a full boat rows needs a fm in meters :D

Ah found you lol. Been away from the UK forum for a few months and thought it was me when I was trying to log back in. I've also sent them an e-mail trying to find out what's going on, no reply yet but if I do I'll post something on this forum. Good to know there's a few 'armageddon' survivors still around lol

I asked about the old forum on Facebook and got the following reply from Alex Wortley

"Hi Everyone, just jumping in on this as with the last ISS related post. We've just changed servers this week and unfortunately have experienced some issues with the website as a result. These are currently being looked in to and we hope that they will be fixed tomorrow.

All other issues mentioned here such as not listing results etc have been covered on past posts and were due to Concept2 retaking ownership of the UK brand and therefore it no longer being in our interests to carry on the results as they were Concept2 specific and therefore we expected them to take over the running of that particular section.

Thanks everyone!"

That's from 22nd June

That's very clever maths that you've done there.

Sorry I didn't realise that was a serious choice. I hate the "slowest rep counts" challenges, they're almost as horrid as a rate restricted 30'

It's because FMatters are having a Marathon day this month I think.

Hi Dougie,

Just forwarding on a request to rewrite the CTC description so it's a little easier to understand.

The numbers displayed are incorrect to begin with. It's 8439m total, and not 11252m.

The original description was:
July CTC:
The Fitness Matters Marathon Challenge.....with a twist!
Row 3 X 2813m intervals with 4 mins rest between reps.
Rolling starts are allowed for reps 2 and 3. Every boat filled will combine to give a full marathon distance rowed.
The twist is you ONLY LOG YOUR SLOWEST REP so you must commit to the challenge.
Happy Rowing.

Hope that's okay.

Cheers.

(not the total time for 11252m). - think this needs to be 8439m

That's what comes from multiplying 2813 by 4 (rest time) rather than 2813 by 3 (number of reps).

2813x3=8439.

8439x5=42195.

42195 is the no. of meters in a marathon.

No one CTCer and no group of any size will be rowing a marathon for the July CTC.

OK, FM (Fitness Matters) wants us all to know that its members are each encouraged to row a FM (marathon) at some time or other.

Is this monthly exercise in obscuration and misdirection valuable for the buzz it may create or for the confusion it invariably does create?
