U17 Summer rowing

Post by MatthewFab » February 3rd, 2018, 11:47 pm

I have been looking around and wandering what people recommend for competitive summer rowing. Last year I competed with RJRC (Rochester Junior Rowing Club), but i wanted to know what are good programs that compete competitively at regattas like Royal Canadian Henley, or club Nats.
Just Incase your wandering
Age: 16
2k: 7:11.8 (plan on attending Crashbs and should be able to go significantly faster since that 2k)
5k: 18:52.4
6k: 23:29.9

Thanks for anybody’s ideas and recommendations.

Matthew you may get more advice on a US rowing (on the water) forum rather than one dedicated to the erg around the world but there are a few here with school and college rowing experience.

I have been rowing for four years and turn 16 in about 2 months. I did a 2km a couple months ago and got 6:26.6. I am 6' and 82kg. I am a National level sculler from Australia though. I am competing at Nationals in a week and I am at the top 3 level. I would say that at your age a respectable 2km to aim for is about 6:50, but it really depends on power to weight. A good power to weight check is this weight calculator link from concept 2 http://www.concept2.com.au/indoor-rower ... calculator . This gives an approximation of an eight time with eight of you. I would say that on this calculator if you can pull off a sub 6:15 at your age you are going really well on track. For comparison to a fairly high rower I am 5:53 on it. Good luck to your rowing. Just remember Ergs are not everything!!!
