2014 Dominators Update

It’s time once again to update the list of The Dominators: those who have finished the season ranked #1 in at least five of the ten* events in their gender/weight/age group since the rankings began in 2000.

The top Dominator this season was Anne Bourlioux (F-H, 50-59), with ten #1s. She is the fifth person to sweep the board and the first woman to do it more than once. Along the way, she set world records at 500m and 1K.

Three ergers captured eight #1s: Ann Wopat (F-H, 60-69), who also set six world records, at 500m, 1K, 5K, 30 minutes, 10K and 60 minutes; Steve Roedde (M-L, 60-69), who also set six world records, at 500m, 1K, 6K, 30 minutes, 60 minutes and half-marathon; and, TJ Oesterling (M-H, 60-69), who bettered his world records for 5K, 30 minutes, 10K and half-marathon for the fifth consecutive year. Since 2000, fourteen people have finished the season with eight #1s.

Next was Sylvia Speechley (F-L, 60-69) who became the 21st person to be awarded seven #1s.

The 2014 list of Dominators finishes with Graham Benton (M-H, 2014), who set world records at 2K, 5K, 30 minutes and half-marathon, Keith Coleman (M-H, 70-79), Brett Taylor (M-L, 0-12), Arwed Egger (M-L, 50-59) and Luanne Mills (F-H, 70-79), each of whom had the five #1s within a single age/weight group needed to become a Dominator.

Finally, Luanne Mills increased her lead as the best erger of all-time, becoming the only person to dominate nine times. During the 2014 season, in addition to her five #1s as a heavyweight, she had two #1s as a lightweight, for a life-time total of 80 first-place rankings. She also set a world record in the 2K for 75-79 lightweights.
