Can someone explain about this?

What's the format? Entry requirements? Categories? Performance levels at the categories (can I enter and not get my tragically fragile ego shattered?)
56yo, 6'2" 77.5kg. Cyclist, rock climber and recently, erger.

2k only. half decades over 50, i.e. 50-54. M open, over 165#, otherwise M LWT. Check website for current fees. Level - check website for records.

Note that you are age-disadvantaged for your category. At 55 you will have a better shot. But it beats trying to compete in the 40-49 at age 49.

Age used is as of the day of the event.

also BIRC has been revived. In the past it rivaled WIRC for size. Check out the UK forum.

CRASH Bs, as far as I can tell, is the biggest 2k erg competition in the world. There are no entry requirements other than registering and paying the fee. It's held in the Agganis (sp?) Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Everyone races 2k distance, there are many categories both by age and weight (HW/LW). As far as the level - the level is very high. It used to be frequented by a lot of national teamers and Olympians, though those numbers have decreased in the past few years. That being said, however, the level of competition is still as high as you will find anywhere.

Don't worry about entry requirements. They let me row the CRASH-Bs in 2009.

The last post on that forum points out that there has been a subtle revision in the name. Should it now be referred to as BRIC?

The one advantage you'll have Nigel is your weight. You're like me, you look like you can stay under the 165lb max for lightweights and that will give you a huge advantage as compared to the heavys. Make sure you diet down so you're coming in at 162-163. The weigh in is strict; you weight in wearing your racing kit (a tri-suit or a rowing uni is the lightest way to go). You don't want to come in a pound or two heavy the day before and have the physical and mental stress of trying to "make weight". The weigh in is between 1hr and 2hrs prior to your event. Weigh in as close to the 2 hour mark as possible so you can slowly re-hydrate and get a light snack. Things happen fast at crash B's. Have all your ducks in a line. Locate you erg early on. Get on your machine, set the foot stretchers, set your drag (drag factor is displayed lower left when you sit on the machine) and be ready to pull. When you register the website shows you the screen set ups, etc. When you're erg racing and tied to the computer your average will look skewed, don't go nuts and start going too hard. It settles out in 15 to 20 seconds. I went last year and had a blast, totally over-whelming experience and I managed to sneak onto the podium which was pretty surrealistic.

I've seen your numbers, I think you'll surprise yourself. Hope to see you there.
