the 500m and 1k mystery

Post by Bob S. » March 6th, 2015, 11:57 pm

Last week I was surprised to learn that there were amazing times ranked and labelled race for the M HWT 500m and !K done by a David Herring, 94, of Florida. It was puzzling to me, since I had not ever heard of him before and he did not have a 2k in the rankings. I finally did the right thing and clicked on the underlined 1 on the ranking page to bring up his profile. That had the information that the races were done at the Southern Sprints on February 7th. Checking out the results page for that event had 500m and 1k events for adaptive rowing only, and, sure enough, he was listed there as legs/torso/arms. In other words, he is capable of a full stroke, so he is most likely blind. The results page does not give ages, but his profile lists him as 94. In any case, it explains why he did not rank a 2k - there isn't any for adaptive rowers. Based on his 500m and 1k scores, he could probably beat the 85-89 2k record as well as clobber my recent 90-94 2k.
