Dominators 2015 Update

Post by Ralph Earle » May 18th, 2015, 6:17 pm

It’s time once again to update the list of The Dominators: those who have finished the season ranked #1 in at least five of the ten* events in their gender/weight/age group since the rankings began in 2000.

By virtue of setting six world records as a heavyweight, at 500m, 1K, 2K, 30 minutes, 10K and 60 minutes, and eight world records as a lightweight, all but the half-marathon and marathon, pride of place goes to Robert Spenger (M-H/L 90+), the first “Double Dominator.” Let us pause and let that sink in!

Next we have a tie between Anne Bourlioux (F-H, 50-59) and Steve Roedde (M-L, 60-69). Both earned nine #1s and both set two world records; hers were for 30 minutes and the half-marathon, his were for the half-marathon and marathon. . Steve is the seventh person to capture nine; this is the second time Anne has.

Three ergers captured seven #1s: Tiina Kapten (F-H, 40-49), who set five world records, at 1K, 6K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon; Marjorie Roome (F-H, 60-69); and, Justine Reston (F-L, 40-49), who set seven world records, at 5K, 6K, 30 minutes,10K, 60 minutes, half-marathon and marathon. Since 2000, 24 people have finished the season with seven #1s.

Next with six #1s were Terry Dargan (M-L, 70-79), who set world records at 6K, 10K and 60 minutes, and Mari Friend (F-L, 70-79). They are the 27th and 28th ergers to earn six #1s.

The 2015 list finishes with Arwed Egger (M-L, 50-59), TJ Oesterling (M-H, 60-69), Emily Delleman (F-H, 13-18), who set a world record at 5K, and Joanna Allsebrook (F-L, 50-59), each of whom had the five #1s within a single age/weight group needed to become a Dominator. TJ Oesterling’s seventh consecutive year as a Dominator ties him with Luanne Mills. Emily Delleman is the first female to dominate the 13-18 age group.

Thanks for this update Ralph, big congrats to Bob S., what an incredible achievement.
I met Emily Delleman at Crashb's this year, she was a qualifier also and came in third in her junior race with the awesome time of 6:52.8, she is a very nice young lady, very talented on the water also and member of the US junior national team, I'll make sure she sees this.

When you do, Anne, please apologize to her for my misspelling her last name. It appears it's too late to edit my post.
