Logbook column changes

Post by Cyclingman1 » May 13th, 2025, 2:58 pm

Is it just me, or have others noticed the changes to the Logbook columns. For years there were columns for time and distance in date order. Very useful, for sure. Now C2 has scrapped that and now they have Workout and Score columns. Both columns seem to randomly have time and distance data in both columns in some sort of pseudo alphabetical order. They've made it totally nonsensical. No one could possibly think that they've improved the Logbook format. It's totally irritating for those who want ready access to their times and distances.

Yes, sorting the new columns "workout" and "score" does give a funny alpha sort where a workout time of 16:05.1 sorts between workout distance of 16,000m and 17,000m. Very strange.

The downloaded season data still gives the following fields in CSV format "Log ID Date Description Work Time (Formatted) Work Time (Seconds) Rest Time (Formatted) Rest Time (Seconds) Work Distance Rest Distance Stroke Rate/Cadence Stroke Count Pace Avg Watts Cal/Hour Total Cal Avg Heart Rate Drag Factor Age Weight Type Ranked Comments Date Entered"

Looks like they took the "Description" field content and stuck it in first field then used either "work time formatted" or "work distance" as the score based on whether description gave time or distance.

Agree it would have been better to just add a "workout" column and leave the existing time/distance fields alone.

No idea what they will do with the sort. It's super ugly the way they have it now.

But if you are sorted by workout date, the new format is not bad. It does make some things clearer.

Filters seem to work the same. At a guess the underlying data has not changed, just the display on the web page so iterating shouldn't be too hard.

Write to info@concept2.com and complain if it doesn't meet your needs, isn't tailorable or is generally just crap.

I dialogued with C2 about 3 weeks ago about this. They indicated that they were trying to accommodate something called a strength erg. Still makes absolutely no sense. I never do the downloading that you refer to. I just want to keep it simple and read my times and distances in date order in their own columns. Sometimes UI software guys can really screw things up and this is a good example. JimG

Totally agree, it’s a big step backwards for usability.

I'm surprised I have not seen more commentary on this ridiculous step backwards in these forums. The "general" category is bit off the beaten track. Apparently C2 is quite pleased with what they've done. My contact says the changes are permanent - as expected. They took something that was just fine and made it obnoxious. Pretty unbelievable.
