I haven't been on the board for awhile. My goal at the OIRC was to beat my PB of 9:39.4 and I'd aimed for 9:36.0, I ended up with 9:35.4. So I was very pleased!

Nice CTC row Brian ... that certainly shook up the boat assignments. Not sure I have 1:38 splits in me this week but will be gung ho to retain stroke seat for the 12K next month!
Great row

 Holy crap Troy! Awesome effort. If there was a smiley waving a white flag, it would be inserted here > < That's faster than my 10K PB pace!
Having been lazy and spent a week indulging in Mexico, I doubt I will come anywhere near that time. I'm struggling to complete 12K at the moment, never mind make a time.

Looks like my recent training has been paying off a bit ... and besides, I thought I'd really take advantage of the the fact that while you were sipping on Margarittas last week, I was hitting the gym  Brian showed up on CTC last week and demoted all of us down a seat - making it tougher and tougher to make boat 1 let alone stroke seat!

Good luck on the 12K - you do have another 26 days to burn off all those Margarittas before you give it a go.

Cheers,
Troy

If it were only margaritas I might have a chance. All inclusive and an 8 pound weight gain is more of a factor. I'll need all 26 days just to break 45 minutes!
I did see Brian's effort last month - very impressive too.

Ok - no pressure at all ... but you realize if you end up sitting in boat 2 at the end of this month, you'll never hear the end of it ... ;)

Thanks a bunch! I guess Walter's my target for now then, 44.27. Ugh! I don't hold out much hope. Someone somewhere once posted that for every week off the erg, it takes a month to get back. We'll see.

I managed to complete a 12K for the first time since February 10, not too impressive but at least I'm in a boat. Lots of room for improvement and still 3+ weeks to go!

Cheers

A busy day for the Eh! Team yesterday!

I did my 12k, first 12k from a 60 min. piece (thanks RowPro :) ).
3 hours sleep and felt like it but did the warm up and sat down.
5 minutes in - I want to quit
2k in - 6 more of these?
3K - 1/4 to 12k, remind myself you should never handle down
4k - do the math for 12K final time
5k - if I quit now I've got an OK work out in
6k - 1/2 way to 12k
30 min - 18 minutes to go! (poor math skills  )
8k - 49:11 for 12K(better math skills   )
9k - 6 more 500's
10k- nice and steady
11k- don't push too hard, there's still 15 minutes to the hour
12k- remember 49:09.6, 2500m to go
12.6- 2 to go, keep it at 2:03
56 min.- 100 strokes left (started counting down)
30 strokes to go- even I can pick it up from here
DONE!

14,666, PB by 200+ meters. WAY tougher mentally than previous attempts.

The things you do to (temporarilly) get in boat I  .

Cheers,

Kirk - I think the mental games you need to stay on the erg for the amount of time most of us do have the same theme - how can I make it through this hell or at least make time fly faster?? One difference between me and you on the progression though - if at 2K into a 60 minute piece I am asking myself the question whether I can do 6 more of these, then it is likely that I will either trim the splts down or trim the target distance/time down - because mentally, I would never make it. As a rule, I spend the first 1/3 of a hard piece convincing myself that this is easy, life is good, etc ... and by the last 1/3 when there is hell to pay, convincing myself that since I made it this far, how could I possibly pass out with only this much to go ;)

Thanks for the ideas Troy.

This was an even split 2:03 from the blocks. I only picked it up in the last 4 minutes (1k to go).

On the longer pieces I have this nagging doubt that if I've gone 12 X 500 meters at 1-2 seconds slower, then I've lost 12-24 seconds that I may not be able to pick up.

I know I won't be able to even split a marathon. I progrssively negative split my 2 HMs so perhaps I should revise my strategy on my next 12K. I know I can do that faster, so I'll already have a plus for the mental game.

Cheers,

Well, I see our Coastal Row has brought us into Hurricane Katrina territory.
I have never been to New Orleans, but I hope they manage to get close to their previous glory, and that I get to visit for Mardi Gras.

Been mighty quiet 'round these parts lately. Just a lot of huffing and puffing, I guess.
Well, a virtual string of Mardi Gras beads to the next poster...
