Costs

Post by tbartman » June 13th, 2007, 1:55 pm

Haven't rowed on anything but a C2, but here is cost info for those interested:

Model D C2, PM4 interface - $1000

Rowperfect (info from Durham Boat Co.) - should be available late summer, most likely in $2000-$3000 range

Oartec (info from company elsewhere on this board) - $6000 Australian = ~$5000 U.S.

This says nothing about the qualities of the machines, pros-cons, who should buy which, etc. Obviously though, someone like me who wants the machine for total body fitness, who gets on the water rarely, and who isn't finacially loaded is less likely to spend $5k than an elite-caliber on-the-water rower. Now, if I were loaded, I'd probably look seriously at the Oartec and put it in a gym with a 60" plasma TV, Blaupunkt stereo, personal masseuse for after the workout, etc. :)

In any case, competition is always a good thing. Hope the entry of more companies continues to push everyone's technology and prices.

A fun ergo?

Post by Jono » January 3rd, 2008, 6:15 pm

It is a universal phenomenon that ergo training is the down side to rowing. I have yet to meet a rower who actually looks forward to ergos.

Enter Oartech….

It has revolutionised the idea of land based rowing. I love it. You get the feel of sweep, that stretch and pull that until now has been isolated to the water.

Change sides in one easy movement, not only great for the balance of the core, but also for technique. I have also dabbled in the sculling set up, but personally prefer the sweep.

I have been using the Oar tech for the past 6 weeks and can’t wait for land based rowing sessions. Time flies, as opposed to dragging that was a common occurrence with the C2.

If you get the chance, line all machines up and spend 10mins on each. I know which one you will go back to.
