I increased my training after only rowing for a few months. I have this weird bump above where I think my ac joint is on my non dominant shoulder. It feels and looks like a bone is sticking up. It starts to go away if I don’t row for a week.
First, had anyone had this? It looks weird but is totally painless.
Second, anyone know exercises to help it? My PT cannot see me for month from today. Also, what is wrong with my form that causes this?
Thanks.

Re: Shoulder pain injury
The simplest way to get good feedback on your technique is to take a video of yourself rowing, (from the side) save it somewhere online, and post a link here, asking for comments.
Good luck diagnosing your issues.

Re: Shoulder pain injury
I've never heard of this issue, and as you say it feels like bone I can only suggest that you get professional advice.
I'd probably do shoulder mobility exercises until then.

Possibly Bursitis.
I had one on my Lx elbow, a year ago at age 82, no idea why nor why left and not right. Never before.
If not just age, I think it was maybe due to an impact. Such sacs are somewhat exposed.
A specialist put a drain hole in it and after a month or so it disappeared.

Re: Shoulder pain injury
I had something kind of similar a while back, small bony-looking bump near the AC joint that got more noticeable with rowing volume, then faded when I rested. In my case, it turned out to be related to inflammation and some scapular instability. Totally painless like you mentioned, but definitely weird.
Since your PT can’t see you for a while, I’d echo what others said: mobility work is a good idea in the meantime, especially scapular control and rotator cuff stability exercises. But I’d also really recommend getting a proper look at it if you can, these things are tricky to self-diagnose. I had a good experience with the kevin kruse md clinic. Dr. Kevin Kruse is a shoulder specialist based in Dallas, he’s board-certified, works with athletes, and was incredibly thorough in both diagnosis and treatment planning. Worth checking out if you’re anywhere nearby.
