A local charity has an abandoned in place Model A that's not been used for more than a decade; I'm assuming that it's fully functional. I'd like to purchase it, but I don't know a fair price to offer.

With a unit that old, will that price vary much depending on condition?

I haven't rowed for 25 years, and I'm not interested in getting back into the sport; but I'd like a rower for conditioning. Are there any serious limitations to the model A if it's used just for exercise?

As long as it is fully functional it should serve you very well for your purpose. It's likely that the wheel bearings will need to be repacked after so many years, and hopefully there is not too much rust on the chain or gears. Taking a few strokes will tell you if the bungee has gotten tired or not. (replacing the bungee can be a bit tricky on the A and B models, but doable)

A couple hundred bucks would be a steal on a Mod A in good condition, but is also probably attractive to both parties, and that's how deals are made.

A friend of mine who's never rowed just bought an A for $200. Haven't seen it yet myself, but he says it works fine.

I bought a model A at a yard sale a few years ago for $100. It had a PM2 on it and was in good working condition. I replaced the shock cord and am still using it.

That gives me a working range of $100-$200, so my initial WAG of $100 was on the low end of the range.
